The Red Lake County Rebel Baseball hit the ball hard, but Win-E-Mac hit the ball hard and found openings on their way to a 7-4 victory in the Section 8A Baseball semi-finals at Bemidji State University.
FIRST INNING-
The first two Red Lake County batters were retired and Ben Gullingsrud reached on an error before the next batter flew out to right field.
Win-E-Mac’s Nic Schow reached on an error and Owen Strom singled. The next batter lined out to centerfield. The next batter hit into a fielder’s choice and Red Lake County got the out at second base. The next Patriot batter struck out and the game was scoreless after one inning of play.
SECOND INNING-
Red Lake County’s Brock Seeger singled to lead off the inning, advanced to second on a balk and moved over to third on a wild pitch. After an out, Owen Chervestad singled to score a run and the Rebels led 1-0.
Win-E-Mac answered in the bottom of the inning when Charles Carlson and Braydon Sander were hit by a pitch. Jayden Haugen singled before Nic Schow singled to score two runs for a 2-1 lead. Owen Strom singled in two more runs and the Patriots led 4-1.
THIRD INNING –
Red Lake County’s Will Gieseke led off with a double to right-center field. The next three batters were retired on a line out, ground out, and a strikeout.
Win-E-Mac was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a ground out, pop out, and a strikeout.
FOURTH INNING-
Red Lake County answered in the top of the inning when Brock Seeger singled, Brock Knott was hit by a pitch and Chervestad reached on an error and bases were loaded with nobody out. Taggart hit a ground ball and Win-E-Mac got the out at home plate. Bases were still loaded and Dawson Erickson hit a fly ball to right field to knock in a run on a sacrifice fly. Gieseke followed with a line drive over the left fielder’s head for a two-run double to tie the game at 4-4.
Win-E-Mac was retired in 1-2-3 fashion for the second straight inning with a fly out, strike out, and a line out.
FIFTH INNING-
Red Lake County was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a ground out and two flyouts.
Win-E-Mac’s Strom led off the bottom of the inning with a walk before Hamre singled. The next Patriot batter, Howard singled to score a run for a 5-4 lead. After a strikeout, Kolten Schow doubled to score two runs for a 7-4 lead.
SIXTH INNING-
The first two Red Lake County batters were retired before Taggart and Denny Lanctot reached on errors. Gieseke walked to load the bases, but the next batter lined out to center field, and the Rebel threat was over.
Win-E-Mac’s first two batters were retired before Strom singled. The next batter flew out to right field and Win-E-Mac took a 7-4 lead into the seventh inning.
SEVENTH INNING-
Red Lake County was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a groundout and two flyouts and Win-E-Mac won the game 7-4.
Red Lake County drops to 20-5 on the year and will play the winner of Sacred Heart and Fosston at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Bemidji State. KROX will have the game on the radio. Win-E-Mac will be off until Thursday when they will play in the Section 8A Championship game against either Sacred Heart, Fosston, or Red Lake County.
