The Red Lake County Rebel football team scored on their first five drives of the game and cruised to a 42-8 victory over the Red Lake Warriors in a game played at Red Lake.
FIRST-QUARTER –
Red Lake ran three plays and gained a yard and was forced to punt. The punt was off the side of the foot and Red Lake County had their first possession at the Red Lake 26 yard line. On the first offensive play of the game, Red Lake County’s Blane Schmitz found Gerald Melin open for a 26-yard pass for a touchdown for a 6-0 lead. The Rebels converted the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.
Red Lake was forced to punt after six plays and Red Lake County had the ball at their own 44-yard line to start their second drive. Brock Seeger got the drive going with an 11-yard run to spark an eight-play 56-yard drive that took just over two minutes and was capped by a Paul DeHate three-yard run. After the DeHate two-point conversion, Red Lake County led 16-0 with 3:13 left in the quarter.
Two plays later, Red Lake County got the ball back when Ethan Majeres intercepted a pass and the Rebels started their third drive on the Red Lake 31-yard line. It only took two plays and the Rebels scored on a Blane Schmitz 16-yard run and after the two-point conversion, they led 24-0. Red Lake ran three plays on their next drive before Tyler Eskeli recovered a fumble to give the Rebels the ball back at the Red Lake 29-yard line.
SECOND-QUARTER –
The Rebels started the second quarter with their fourth drive of the game. They had an incomplete pass, followed by a run, a penalty for a first down, and a Seeger 17-yard touchdown for a 30-0 lead.
Red Lake committed two penalties on their next drive and was forced to punt and Red Lake County started their fifth drive at the Red Lake 37-yard line. The Rebels started with a penalty, but Seeger answered with a big run and even though the Rebels had another penalty during the drive they were able to move the ball and on the 11th play of the drive, the Rebels scored on a Carson Erickson 27-yard run for a 36-0 lead.
THIRD-QUARTER –
Red Lake came out strong and had the ball to start the third quarter. The Warriors put together a seven-play 66-yard drive that took over three minutes and was capped by a Dakota Rosenbear 13-yard run to score their first touchdown of the season. The two-point conversion was run in by Rosenbear and Red Lake trailed 36-8.
Red Lake County had an answer on the next drive, after starting at their own 49-yard line, the Rebels ran three plays and scored 38-seconds after the Warriors on a Carson Erickson 27-yard run for a 42-8 lead with 8:03 left in the quarter.
Red Lake had another impressive drive, rattling off 10 plays, but they turned it over on downs.
FOURTH-QUARTER –
Neither team scored in the fourth quarter as both teams took a lot of time off the clock and Red Lake County held on for a 42-8 victory.
Red Lake County improves to 1-1 on the year and will host Bagley on Friday, September 17. Red Lake drops to 0-2 on the year.
