The Red Lake County American Legion Baseball team (Post 22 and Post 623) held the Middle River Renegades hitless en route to a 4-0 win to advance to the First Round of the Subdistrict Playoffs.
FIRST INNING-
Ben Gullingsrud retired the Renegades in order on two groundouts and a strikeout in the top of the 1st.
For RLC, Will Gieseke led off with a single, and an error then put runners on the corners with nobody out. Then, a balk scored the first run of the game, making it 1-0 RLC. After a groundout moved Gunnar Halvorsen to third, an RBI groundout by Brock Seeger made it 2-0, which would stand at the end of the inning.
SECOND INNING-
Middle River was once again retired in order in the 2nd, again on a strikeout and two groundouts.
Another Renegade error got the leadoff runner on for RLC, but he would be left stranded as Alex Bray induced two groundouts and a flyout to keep the score at 2-0 through two innings.
THIRD INNING –
The Renegades got their first baserunner of the game in the top of the 3rd inning on a leadoff walk by Tanner Torgerson, but two strikeouts and a groundout stranded the baserunner, keeping Middle River scoreless.
With one out in the bottom of the 3rd, Ben Gullingsrud singled, and then after another out, Kegan Schmitz walked. That set up two on for Riley Broden, who drove them in with a two-run single to make it 4-0 RLC. A groundout to third would then end the inning.
FOURTH INNING-
Gunnar Halvorsen relieved Ben Gullingsrud in the 4th, and after allowing a single and error with one out, getting the runner to third, he kept Middle River off the scoreboard with a strikeout and foul popout to end the frame.
RLC got a two-out single from Gieseke in the bottom of the 4th, but two groundouts and a strikeout quickly ended the inning, keeping the score at 4-0 through 4 innings.
FIFTH INNING-
The Renegades were retired in order in the top of the 5th, on a strikeout and two groundouts.
RLC was also retired in order in the home half of the 5th, as Bray set them down on a groundout and two flyouts.
SIXTH INNING-
Hlavorsen continued to mow batters down, as he set the Renegades down in order once again on a groundout, a strikeout, and the first flyout of the game for Middle River bats.
RLC got a one-out single from Boe Nelson in the home half of the 6th, but new pitcher Isaak Anderson was electric, getting a flyout and then two strikeouts to quickly end the inning.
SEVENTH INNING-
Sawyer Torgerson walked with two outs in the top of the 7th, but the game ended on a popout and two groundouts, allowing RLC to move on with a 4-0 victory.
Red Lake County improves to 9-5 on the season, while the season for Middle River ends with a 7-9 record.
