RED LAKE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE ARREST TWO AFTER ASSAULT ON A WOMAN

The Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report at approximately 3:00 a.m. that there was an altercation going on in the parking lot of Cenex in Red Lake Falls.  Upon arrival, a sheriff’s deputy spoke with a female who had blood on her face.  The victim reported that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend, Joe Johnson.  She stated that Johnson had just left traveling south on Highway 32 with Zach Grochow.  She described the vehicle as a Lincoln.
The sheriff’s deputy activated his emergency lights and proceeded south on Highway 32.  The sheriff’s deputy noticed a southbound vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed.  While approaching the vehicle, it briefly stopped on 32 and continued south again.  The vehicle pulled into a farmyard in Lake Pleasant township.  The driver exited the vehicle and ran.  The deputy apprehended the driver, Zach Dale Grochow, age 22 of Dassel.
After apprehending Grochow, the deputy learned Grochow had dropped Joe Johnson along Highway 32 and he had run into the woods.  Multiple deputies responded to the area and Joe Louis Johnson, 35 of Walker, was located inside an outbuilding.
Johnson was arrested for third-degree burglary, fifth-degree domestic assault, and fleeing on foot.  Grochow was arrested for felony fleeing in a motor vehicle, fleeing on foot, and reckless driving.  Both parties were transported to Tri-County Correctional Center where they are being held for their first court appearance.
