The Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office has been busy the past week with several calls. We have a recap of the week below –
Shortly after midnight on Friday, July 12, a Red Lake County deputy seized some illegal fireworks from an individual at the gravel pit south of Oklee. No criminal charges were filed.
On the evening of Friday, July 12, Red Lake County law enforcement, the Oklee Ambulance, and the Plummer Fire Department were dispatched to a motorcycle/deer crash on Hwy. #59 south of Plummer. Werman Hamman (26) of Plummer, was southbound on Hwy. #59, when his Harley Davidson collided with a deer. The motorcycle sustained significant damage. Hamman was transported to the Sanford Emergency Room in Thief River Falls, by the Oklee Ambulance, to be treated for his injuries.
On the afternoon of Saturday, July 13, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a kayaker that was unable to land at Sportsman’s Park, and they were carried downstream. Red Lake County deputies responded and the Red Lake Falls Fire Department also provided assistance. The female was located on the river, approximately four miles west of Red Lake Falls. She was assisted off of the river and returned to her group at Sportsman’s park unharmed.
On the morning of Monday, July 15, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a theft of mail packages in Red Lake Falls. On Tuesday, several other similar reports were received. Those incidents are currently under investigation.
On Monday, July 15, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of property damage in Poplar River Township. That matter is under investigation.
On Monday, July 15, a formal criminal complaint was filed, charging Juston Joe Anderson (37) of Red Lake Falls with misdemeanor trespassing. The complaint alleges Mr. Anderson failed to leave the residence of another, after being notified by the owner to do so. This incident occurred in April of 2019 in the city of Red Lake Falls. He will be summonsed to appear in Court in Red Lake Falls sometime in August.
On Tuesday, July 16, a formal criminal complaint was filed, charging Cody Eldene Landrus (27) of Oklee with misdemeanor disorderly conduct. The complaint alleges, on June 22, in the city of Oklee, Landrus engaged in disorderly conduct by yelling and swearing at individuals. It is also alleged that he was attempting to engage in brawling, which caused alarm to several people. He will be summonsed to appear in Court in Red Lake Falls sometime in August.
On Tuesday, a formal criminal complaint was filed, charging Shara Leann Paradis (39) of Red Lake Falls, with misdemeanor allowing a dog to run at large. The criminal complaint alleges that Paradis allowed a dog in her care, to run out onto a public street and attack another dog that was under the control of its owner. The dog sustained substantial injury and had to be treated at the Red Lake Falls Vet Clinic. This occurred in the city of Red Lake Falls on June 28. She will be summonsed to appear in Court in Red Lake Falls on August 7.
On the evening of Tuesday, July 16, a Red Lake County deputy took a report from a concerned citizen about a suspicious vehicle in the city of Oklee. The deputy located the suspect vehicle on Hwy. #59, south of Plummer, and stopped it for unsafe driving conduct. The driver of the vehicle was Marvin Wayne Head (68) of Redby. Further investigation revealed that Head did not have a valid driver’s license. Illegal controlled substances were also found inside of Head’s vehicle. He was arrested and taken to jail in Crookston. Head was booked for gross misdemeanor possession of methamphetamine, gross misdemeanor driving after cancelation, misdemeanor possession of a small amount of marijuana and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Cass County and Beltrami County also held active warrants for his arrest. On Thursday, Head was released to Cass County authorities. He will be summonsed to Court in Red Lake County after his Cass County and Beltrami County matters are resolved.
On the evening of Wednesday, July 17, Red Lake County deputies, the Plummer Fire Department and the Thief River Falls ambulance were dispatched to a report of a one-vehicle rollover at the north end of Minnesota St. in Plummer. The driver of the vehicle, Steven Scott Fiege (48) of Watertown, WI, had turned a corner too sharp and the vehicle overturned into the ditch. He was medically cleared at the scene and was subsequently arrested for driving while intoxicated. He was taken to the jail in Crookston and was booked for gross misdemeanor DWI. He appeared in Court in Crookston on Thursday. He posted $500 cash bond and was released from custody.
