RED LAKE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE WEEKLY REPORT

The Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office had a busy week with several calls.  The week’s recap is below –

On the evening of January 9, a Red Lake County deputy went to a residence in Red Lake Falls to conduct a welfare check on some children that were staying at the house. While at the residence, an adult female reported that she was assaulted by her ex-boyfriend earlier that day. He was not at the residence at the time of the report. Later the same evening, Red Lake County deputies located the suspect, Samuel Paul Scott (30) of Fertile, at a residence in Oklee. Mr. Scott was arrested and taken to jail in Crookston. He was booked for misdemeanor domestic assault. He appeared in Court in Crookston on 01/10/20 and was released from custody on the condition to have contact with the victim.

On the afternoon of January 10, a Red Lake County deputy attempted to stop a vehicle on Main Ave. in Red Lake Falls because the driver of the vehicle did not have a valid driver’s license. The driver attempted to elude the deputy by making several turns and traveling through alley ways at a high rate of speed in the residential neighborhoods on the south side of Red Lake Falls. The vehicle finally came to a stop on Main Ave. The driver of this vehicle was Abby Lee Mosbeck (38) of Red Lake Falls. When she exited her car, she struck the deputy in the face. The deputy was not injured and other deputies arrived on the scene and assisted in her apprehension. Ms. Mosbeck was arrested and taken to the jail in Crookston. She was booked with felony fleeing in a motor vehicle, assaulting a peace officer, several misdemeanor traffic-related violations and possession of a small amount of marijuana. She appeared in Court in Crookston on 01/13/20 and was held on $200 cash bond. On January 15, Mosbeck posted bond and was released from custody. Her next court appearance is scheduled for January 22 in Red Lake Falls.

In the early morning hours of January 11, Red Lake County deputies were dispatched to a report of a disturbance at a home in Lake Pleasant Township. When the 1st deputy arrived, he found an adult male lying on the floor. This male had a severe laceration to his head and was bleeding. The deputy rendered First-Aid to the victim and contacted the Red Lake Falls Ambulance so they could respond to provide assistance. The male victim was transported to the Sanford ER in Thief River Falls. The Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating this incident.

On the afternoon of January 13, Christopher John Moran (29) of Ottertail, MN was cited for misdemeanor failure to yield at an intersection in the city of Oklee.

On the afternoon of January 14, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of illegal dumping in the city of Red Lake Falls. That report is still under investigation.

On the morning of January 15, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a traffic crash at the intersection of Hwy. #59 and Hwy. #92 in Brooks. Red Lake County law enforcement officers responded to the scene and found that a semi-truck pulling a trailer, driven by Roger Dale Opdahl (61) of Brooks, was making a right-hand turn onto Hwy. #92 and a southbound pickup, driven by Ralph Marvin Landman (55) of Roseau, ran into the back of the trailer. Both of the involved vehicles were damaged, but there were no injuries. Snow-covered roadways and decreased visibility from the blowing snow were the main factors that contributed to the crash.

On the morning of January 15, the Oklee Fire Department responded to a report of a vehicle on fire on 2nd Ave. in Oklee. The Oklee Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the burning car. The vehicle was severely damaged, but there were no injuries reported.

On the afternoon of January 16, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a vehicle failing to stop for a school bus stop arm on Main Ave. in Red Lake Falls. That report is still under investigation.
