RED LAKE FALLS LAFAYETTE HIGH SCHOOL WILL HOLD CURBSIDE GRADUATION & PARADE FRIDAY

Red Lake Falls Lafayette High School will hold it’s graduation ceremony Friday, May 22, at 6:30 p.m. outside the school gymnasium.

The students will be asked to pull up to the front of the gymnasium. “The students and parents will be in their vehicles in alphabetical order.  I will be at the podium, and as a student pulls up, I’ll announce the name.  They’ll come up and receive a diploma from the table, have an opportunity for a photo, and then back into the vehicle and move on down the line,” said Red Lake Falls Principal Brad Kennett. “Once we get all 24 graduates through, at the front of the line, we’ll have our local fire department, law enforcement, ambulance service leading a parade through town.”

Kennett also encouraged Red Lake Falls residents to show their support for the seniors during the parade.“We want everybody to practice social distancing as they come out and congratulate our seniors and show their support for them,” said Kennett. “At the same time, hopefully, it’s a way to recognize them a little different than we have in the past considering everything they have missed out on because of COVID-19.”

Kennett said he couldn’t thank his students, especially the senior class, parents, community, and staff, for how they’ve handled distance learning and the loss of traditional events and memories. “Can’t thank them enough for how they’ve handled the distance learning, not only the students, the parents,” said Kennett. “Seniors especially, with everything that’s been thrown at them, I think we all feel so bad about some of the traditional things they’ve lost on, but it’s out of everybody’s hands and not much you can do.  Not just the seniors, but all of your students thinking about spring activities and, certainly, your senior class who don’t get that traditional graduation.  Just the fact they handled distance learning so well and the parents for supporting them so well.  It was a big burden put not just on the students, but the parents as well, and our staff having to adjust their curriculum. But, senior class, we certainly appreciate the way you’ve represented Lafayette High School and our community. And we will try to do our best to recognize them on the 22nd and appreciate everything they’ve done throughout their careers here at Lafayette High School.”
