Red Lake Falls vs BGMR in the Section 8A Championship

FIRST INNING
Red Lake Falls wasted no time jumping out to a 1-0 lead thanks to Jayden Breiland reaching on an error and scoring on a Shani Nelson RBI double. Kinsley Hanson would settle down, getting the next three batters out in order. Gabby Casavan had a quick inning, allowing one baserunner and keeping it 1-0 after 1.

SECOND INNING
The Eagles looked to add more runs in the second, loading up the bases. But Kinsley Hanson would get out of the jam and the score remained 1-0 in Red Lake Falls’ favor. Casavan would comeback with her best inning of her game, going 1-2-3 with two strikeouts to end the inning.

THIRD INNING
A leadoff single from Casavan would be the only threat from Red Lake Falls in the third, with a strikeout and a double play from McKenzie Dahl would end the inning before the Eagles could get anything going. The Gators would have another rough inning at the plate, going down 1-2-3. The score remained 1-0 going into the fourth.

FOURTH INNING
A single from Alexis Swendra would be the highlight for the Eagles in the fourth inning, as Kinsley Hanson would continue to find her stride in the circle for BGMR keeping the game at 1-0 going to the bottom of the inning. Badger-Greenbush-Middle River would start to apply some pressure at this point in the game. Kinsley Hanson would hit a double to the left field fence, followed up with a Jaci Hanson single put runners at the corners. Jaci would steal second, and on the throw down to second, Casavan would cut the throw off and cause a rundown resulting in the runner being tagged out at the plate. The Gators would not score and it was 1-0 going into the fifth.

FIFTH INNING
Gabby Casavan would try and start a two-out rally with her second single of the game, but the Gators would cut that short, ending the inning before the Eagles could get an insurance run. Teagan Landsrud lead off for BGMR with a single. Quinn Vacura followed up with a double to right field. Lansrud would attempt to take third, and would be thrown out thanks to a great relay form Lila Lanctot and Kylie Klipping for the first out. Elizabeth Gust would lay down a bunt to get Vacura over to second with two outs. Tessany Blazek with step up with single, Vacura would ignore being held up at third and head for home. The throw was a little high, and Quinnlyn Kenfield would reach to catch it, landing awkwardly and allow Vacura to score to keep the inning alive. Kenfield would remain in the game. McKenzie Dahl would hit a ball to the left field fence for an RBI double to take the lead. Dahl would then score on the next play due to a throwing error to give the Gators a 3-1 lead after 5.

SIXTH INNING
Red Lake Falls would struggle to get any chances to tie the game up. The Eagles got one runner on base thanks to a fielder error before ending the half-inning still down 2. BGMR would do the same, getting on baserunner due to a fielding error, but not scoring any additional runs.

SEVENTH INNING
Kinsley Hanson would end the game strong, putting down the Eagles 1-2-3 to end the Eagles’ season on a lineout to left field. Winning 3-1.

The Eagles end their season 20-5. Badger-Greenbush-Middle River will go on to represent Section 8 in the MSHL State Tournament in Mankato next week.
