RED LAKE FALLS WOMAN MAKES COURT APPEARANCE WITH BOND SET

Sarah Kortan, 30 of Red Lake Falls, had bond set at $50,000 conditional/$500,000 unconditional today.  Kortan has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of an infant last month. Kortan made an appearance before Judge Tamara Yon in Red Lake County District Court.
The charges stem from an incident on June 20. According to court documents, Kortan admitted she dropped the infant earlier with the baby hitting the stove and floor, but the University of North Dakota Forensic Pathology Lab said the injuries suffered by the infant were “intentionally inflicted trauma;” including multiple skull fractures, retinal hemorrhaging and detachment.
The next court appearance will be August 14 for an omnibus hearing.
