CROOKSTON REDS FALL TO ADA 9-2

The Ada A’s used timely hitting and solid defense to take down the Crookston Reds Amateur Baseball team 9-2 Monday night.

Brett Fetting led off for Ada with a single and stole second before coming in to score on a groundball that went through the first baseman’s legs to give the A’s a 1-0 lead in the first.  In the second Colby Stevenson would single to left and advance to second when the left fielder overran the ball.  He’d score on an RBI bloop single to center to make it 2-0.

Both pitchers would cruise through the next three innings before Ada broke the game open.  Ethan Opsahl and Nate Bence opened the home half of the sixth inning with back-to-back doubles to make it 3-0, before a hit batter and a walk loaded the based.  A bases-loaded walk would bring home a run and a wild pitch brought home another to make it 5-0.

The Reds would get their only runs of the game when Bailey Schmitz led off the seventh with a single and advanced to second on an error.  Riley Thompson doubled to score Schmitz and Lars Brevik would double later in the inning to score Thompson to make it 5-2.  Ada would get those runs back with three singles in the eighth to load the bases with two outs.  A catcher’s interference call and a hit by pitch would bring home two runs to make it 7-2 before Fetting doubled scoring two more to make it 9-2.

The Reds were unable to mount an answer as they went in order in the eight and ninth.  Crookston falls to 9-9 on the season and will travel to Dilworth for a game Sunday, time to be determined.
