Representative Steve Gander, candidate for the Minnesota House of Representatives in District 1B, is proud to announce he has earned the endorsement of the Minnesota Professional Fire Fighters (MPFF), a respected organization representing more than 2,500 firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, and dispatchers, serving 46 communities across Minnesota.
The endorsement reflects MPFF’s confidence in Gander’s commitment to strengthening public safety, supporting first responders, and ensuring Minnesota’s fire departments have the resources they need to protect their communities.
“I am deeply honored to receive the endorsement of the Minnesota Professional Fire Fighters,” said Gander. “Every day, these brave men and women put themselves in harm’s way to protect our families, homes, and businesses. They deserve leaders who will stand with them, advocate for their safety, and ensure they have the staffing, equipment, and support necessary to do their jobs effectively.”
The Minnesota Professional Fire Fighters, an affiliate of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), endorses candidates who recognize the importance of protecting public safety professionals, improving working conditions, and safeguarding the health and retirement security of firefighters and emergency personnel.
In announcing its endorsement, MPFF emphasized the critical importance of adequate staffing to ensure rapid emergency response while protecting firefighters from unnecessary risks, injuries, and occupational illnesses. The organization also highlighted the need to recruit, train, and retain qualified firefighters to meet the growing demands placed on departments across Minnesota.
Gander said those priorities align closely with his commitment to supporting law enforcement, firefighters, emergency medical personnel, and other first responders who serve communities throughout northwest Minnesota.
“Our first responders answer the call on our worst days,” Gander said. “Whether responding to a house fire, a medical emergency, or a natural disaster, they demonstrate extraordinary courage and professionalism. As a legislator, I will continue working to ensure they have the resources they need and the respect they have earned.”
MPFF also identified protecting and strengthening firefighters’ retirement security as one of its highest legislative priorities, recognizing that those who dedicate their careers to protecting Minnesota families deserve the peace of mind that comes with a secure pension. Gander expressed his appreciation for the organization’s trust and said he looks forward to working collaboratively with Minnesota’s firefighters on policies that support those who serve.
“I am grateful for the confidence the Minnesota Professional Fire Fighters have placed in me,” Gander said. “I look forward to partnering with them to strengthen public safety, support our first responders, and build safer communities for every Minnesotan.”
The endorsement adds to growing support for Gander’s campaign from organizations that recognize his commitment to public safety, strong communities, and responsible leadership in the Minnesota Legislature.
