Richard Allen Hegg – OBIT

Richard Allen Hegg, age 90, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, June 13, 2025, lovingly surrounded by his family. He was born to loving parents Joseph and Hannah (Helgeson) Hegg on October 27, 1934, in Fisher, Minnesota.

Growing up, Richard attended Crookston Public Schools. His educational foundation laying the groundwork for his life’s pursuits. He was not only devoted to his work, but also a steward of his community, as a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and as a member of the Eagles. He also served as a Crookston Police Reserve Volunteer; he was committed to maintaining the safety of his community.
On June 22, 1957, Richard married the love of his life, Annette Thune, at Sand Hill Lutheran Church in Climax, Minnesota. Their family later grew with their three cherished daughters, creating many happy memories over the years. On June 22, 2025, Annette and Richard would have celebrated 68 years of marriage.

Richard’s life was illuminated by a steadfast dedication to both his profession and the service of his community. He carved a path through various esteemed organizations, including Heldstab’s Ice, the Northern Pacific Railroad, Bridgeman Creamery, Crookston Public Schools, and the Polk County DAC. His contributions not only reflected his unwavering work ethic but also enriched the lives of those around him.

Richard was recognized for his accomplishments, receiving the Experienced American Award, a testament to his enduring contributions and the respect he garnered throughout his life.

Beyond his professional commitments, Richard savored the joys life had to offer. He found pleasure in sports, particularly hockey, football, and basketball, his enthusiasm a testament to his vibrant spirit. A lover of leisure, Richard enjoyed playing cards, indulging in spirited games that allowed him to forge connections and create cherished memories with friends and family alike. An avid newspaper reader, he was well-informed and involved in his community and the goings-on around him. Additionally, his fondness for fishing provided tranquility and allowed him to slow down to enjoy nature around him.

As he departs from this world, Richard Allen Hegg leaves behind a legacy rich in kindness, service, and passion. He is survived by his wife, Annette (Thune) Hegg of Crookston, MN; daughters, Connie (Jim) Moen of East Grand Forks, MN, Sheri (Brad) Bateman of Pewaukee, WI, Kristie Hegg of Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren, Brittney Jaskowiak, Heather Moen, Brock Bateman; great-grandchildren, Mya, Blake, Blaire, Jay; and sister, Audrey (Don) Wieland. He is preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Hannah Hegg; siblings, Alice Stout, Helen Bushy, Avis Jansen, Kenneth Hegg, Marlin Hegg, Clayton Hegg, Harvey Hegg, Clifford Hegg, John Hegg, and Joyce Markle.

A memorial service celebrating Richard’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston, Minnesota. Visitation with family will be held one hour prior, with refreshments in the church’s gathering hall. Inurnment will follow the service, at Sandhill Cemetery in Climax, Minnesota.
