RIVERVIEW HEALTH RECEIVES 5-STAR RATING FROM CMS

How better to gauge your services than by those who use them? Based on patient survey results, RiverView Health recently received the Outstanding Patient Experience Award from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The five-star rating – the highest possible score – puts RiverView in the top 10 percent of the more than 4,600 hospitals rated by CMS. Only two other hospitals (Perham Health and Fargo VA) in a 100-mile radius received the same five-star rating.

Annie Waldal, director of the Inpatient Unit and Emergency Department, is proud of the rating and team that works to provide exceptional care day in and day out. “At RiverView Health we treat patients as people, not numbers. We recognize that every patient is someone’s loved one and we deliver their care as such. We are a tight-knit community and that means we need every patient to return to us for their care, and tell two other people about their excellent experience.”

RiverView is one of only 20 Minnesota hospitals with a five-star Patient Experience rating. There are 123 hospitals in Minnesota. Patient experience measures tell you how patients felt about the care they received at the hospital. The survey covers communication, timeliness of services, cleanliness of the facility, and whether the patient would recommend the hospital to friends and family.

Survey results show that RiverView ranked 14 percent higher than the national average in patients who would definitely recommend the hospital to others.

“Our team takes great pride in providing exceptional care, service and collaboration with our patients during every hospital stay,” stated Carrie Michalski, president and CEO. “Communicating well and providing a safe and quiet environment are key to optimizing the healing of each patient.”

The 2023 ratings are part of CMS’ Care Compare program. The program is designed to help patients make healthcare decisions. The Care Compare website lists ratings for various facilities, allowing patients to research high-quality care in their area.
