Robert A. “Bob” Hasbrouck – OBIT

Robert A. “Bob” Hasbrouck, 82, of Crookston, MN, passed away early Tuesday morning at his home with his wife, Gail, and their family at his side.

Together, they had all been courageously battling his cancer for over a year.

Bob was born in Crookston on September 15, 1941, the son of Philip and Marion (Kramer) Hasbrouck. He was educated in Crookston Elementary and Middle Schools before graduating from Central High School as a member of the Class of 1959. Bob moved to Minneapolis soon after to work for the Honeywell Corporation. On December 3, 1960, Bob was united in marriage in Minneapolis to Gail Oline Grove of Climax, MN. The coming years would bless their union with the births of Scott, Jacklyn, and Sheila. In 1964 they moved back to the area, settling in Crookston. A year later came a move to Bremerton, WA where Bob worked for his brother, Don, at his Chevron Station. Upon their return to Crookston Bob became an over-the-road trucker, first owning and operating his own semi and then co-owned Seabrouck Trucking. During these years he became a member of the Crookston Volunteer Fire Department and in 1973 accepted a full-time position with the Crookston Fire Department. He continued to loyally serve the City of Crookston in this capacity until his retirement in 1997. Firefighters enjoy a bond that spans the generations. Bob was deservedly proud of his career and continued to be a part of this special brotherhood, treasuring many deep and abiding friendships, both old and new.

Bob was a longtime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. In retirement, he and Gail enjoyed traveling and being able to spend time with their kids and grandkids. Many family trips were made and greatly enjoyed with the family motor home to all parts of the US and Canada. Bob’s favorite pastimes included playing cards and golfing with family and friends, something he always looked forward to.

Bob’s memory will long be cherished by Gail, the love of his life for over 63 years; their 3 children and their spouses who will be forever grateful for his guidance: Scott and Patricia Hasbrouck of Thompson, ND, Jacklyn and Greg Guerrero of Superior, WI, and Sheila and Scott Stevens of Duluth, MN; and his 5 beloved grandchildren: Jared Guerrero, Alison Guerrero, Blake Hasbrouck, Dylan Stevens, and Rylee Stevens. He also leaves 3 brothers and sisters-in-law: Dennis and Shirley Hasbrouck and Jerry and Debbie Hasbrouck of Crookston, and Larry and Veronica Hasbrouck of Winter Garden FL; sister-in-law, Nancy Hasbrouck of Gordon, WI; and from Gail’s family: brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Eunice and Darryl Anderson of Mandan, ND, Harlow and Peggy Grove of Climax, MN, and Deb and Richard “Red” Normandin of Crookston; together with several nieces and nephews, extended family, and many friends.

Bob was preceded in death by, and is now reunited with, his grandson, Nicholas Stevens; parents, Phil and Marion; brother, Donald Hasbrouck; brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Arlene Hasbrouck; parents-in-law, Orris and Sophronia Grove; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joan and Andy Clemenson; and brother-in-law, James Grove.

Blessed be the memory of Robert Arthur Hasbrouck.

A memorial service celebrating Bob’s life will be held at a later date with further information to come. The Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Messages of condolence may be offered to Gail and family on Bob’s obituary page at www.stenshoelhouske.com.
