Ronald Dean Hasbrouck – OBIT

Ronald Dean Hasbrouck, 84, of Roosevelt, MN, passed away peacefully in the early morning of Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at RiverView Hospital in Crookston. He was born on March 6, 1939, one of six children, to the union of Phillip and Marion (Kramer) Hasbrouck.

Growing up, Ronald clearly developed a strong work ethic, for many years as a young boy he worked alongside his Grandpa Kramer on his farm. Not only did he work on the farm, he also held numerous jobs, one of which was a milk route back in the days of milk cans. In 1956, Ronald graduated from Crookston High School and shortly thereafter, in the same year on September 15, enlisted in the Army in which he served honorably until his discharge on October 31, 1957.

One year after his honorable discharge from the Army, Ronald married the love of his life, Arlene Pederson, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Fisher, MN. Their marriage brought four children into the world: Ronald, Daniel, Gregory, and Richard. The couple spent 55 years together until Arlene’s passing in June of 2013.

In the early years of their marriage, Ronald and Arlene moved to Argyle, MN, and opened a drug store which they ran together for a few years. After closing the drug store, the family moved to many different cities and states for Ronald’s job working with Boeing during the missile site installations, they traveled for many years while Ronald held this position. In 1969, the family relocated back to Crookston where Ronald took a job with the University of Minnesota Crookston campus in the Fall of 1972 until he unfortunately suffered an injury that led to his retirement in 1983.

Ronald was an active member within his community, belonging to many groups and organizations such as the Elks, Eagles, Moose and Legion clubs. One of his most cherished joys throughout his life, aside from spending time with his family, was fishing for Walleye and Northern Pike. Ronald owned a fishing home on Springsteel Island at the Lake of the Woods from the late 1970’s through most of the 1980’s when he sold that property. In 1995, Ronald purchased a fishing getaway at Arnesen’s Rocky Point at Lake of the Woods he retreated to up until his passing. From these getaway trips, Ronald gathered countless stories of fishing excursions he would share with his friends and family.

Ronald’s family will forever remember him as a man of respect, integrity, dedication to both family and country, his love for fishing, for them, and life. He will be greatly missed but not forgotten. May God bless the memory of Ronald Dean Hasbrouck.

The family would like to express great gratitude to LouAnn Weiss for filling what was a great void for “Ronnie” after the loss of his wife, Arlene.
