Roger VanHeuvelen – Obit

Roger Dean VanHeuvelen, age 72, of Crookston, MN, and formerly of Fisher and East Grand Forks, passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2019, at the Villa St. Vincent in Crookston.

Roger was born in Charles City, IA, on November 20, 1946, to Kuhny and Lola (Rogers) VanHeuvelen. After his graduation from Jefferson High School in Independence, IA, Roger enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on August 23, 1966. During his 20-year military career Roger was stationed at many Air Force Bases throughout the United States and overseas, as a maintenance scheduling technician, attaining the rank of TSG. On October 1, 1986, Roger received his honorable discharge at Dyess AFB, TX, and was assigned to retired reserve until April of 1996. He settled in the East Grand Forks-Fisher area and for many years worked as a valued employee on local farms doing everything from spring planting to fall harvest, retiring in 2017. His favorite pastime, aside from working, was playing an occasional round of golf. Roger had been a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Crookston.

A special thank you to the staff of the Villa St. Vincent and Hospice for the exceptional kindness and care given to Roger during his fight with cancer.

Roger is survived by his stepmother, Jeanie of Hazelton, IA, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kuhny and Lola VanHeuvelen, and sister, Phyllis.

The funeral service for Roger Dean VanHeuvelen will be held at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, October 9, 2019, at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston, MN with Pastor Bill Humiston, officiating. Visitation will be for 2 hours prior to the funeral. Roger will be interred at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, IA, next to his mother and sister. May God richly bless the memory of Roger Dean VanHeuvelen.
