Ronald “Ron” Ohren – OBIT

Ronald “Ron” Ohren, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at his home in Moorhead, MN, after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Ron was born on January 16, 1966, to Doug and Jean Ohren in Moorhead, MN. He grew up in Perley, MN and graduated from Norman County West High School in 1984. He was involved in every sport possible, was voted class president and was nominated Homecoming King. Ron continued his education at Minnesota State University Moorhead where he played on the Dragon football team. He created a tight knit bond with his teammates who became his lifelong friends.

After graduating from MSUM in 1991, Ron served as a high school social studies teacher for 10 years in Waubun, MN, and later ventured into the construction business with his father Doug. He was a carpenter by day, but a basketball coach by night, the best of both worlds. He coached basketball for over twenty years in the Waubun and NCW schools and touched the lives of so many players, coaches and fans.

Ron was the ultimate sports fan. Whether it was being a successful player on the field, coaching in the gym, or watching his favorite Minnesota sports teams: He relished these times. Ron also took great pride in the achievements of his family members in their respective activities. He loved all outdoor activities, particularly fishing and hunting. His two favorite places on this earth were the Hunting Shack and Strawberry Lake.

Ron will be deeply missed by his wife, Michelle Ohren, whom he married in 2001, and their children: Jordan (Megan) Larson, Abby (Grant) Longbella, Austin Ohren, and Madyson Ohren. He is also survived by his parents, Doug and Jean Ohren, and his siblings, Rick Ohren (Lydia Moore) and Becky Anderson (Ross Christianson). Ron’s memory will be forever cherished by his grandchildren, extended family members, including many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, and a wide circle of friends.

Ron was preceded in death by his grandparents, Len and Alice Ohren and Victor and Evelyn Palm, his uncles, Leroy Palm, Arden (Mary) Ohren, and Eugene Ohren, and cousin, Randy Ohren.

The family requests that donations be made to the Richard M Schulze Family Hope Lodge in Minneapolis, MN or the Pray for Gray Organization in Ron’s honor.

Ron’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered their support and condolences during this difficult time. His memory will forever remain in our hearts.

“Heaven’s gain is our loss, but Ron’s spirit will continue to shine brightly through the lives he touched.”
