Ronald “Ronnie” C. Thompson – Obit

Ronald “Ronnie” C. Thompson, 65, Ada, MN passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 13, 2023, at Benedictine Care Community in Ada.

Ronnie was born on February 17, 1957, at St. John’s Hospital in Fargo, ND to Elmer and Thelma (Larson) Thompson.

After moving various places during his young life, he and his family found home to be Halstad, MN. He was the only one of 4 siblings to go all 13 years at one school. Ronnie was baptized and confirmed in Halstad Lutheran Church in Halstad. He graduated from Halstad High School in 1975 and relinquished his job of delivering for the Fargo Forum. That was a family tradition since 1960. Ronnie had many fun times with friends in High School. He was kind, friendly, and loved to visit with anyone.

He worked various jobs in the Halstad area and received permanent status at the Red River Valley Co-op in Halstad. He continued there until he was critically injured in a car accident in October of 1978. After Ronnie’s accident that left him partially paralyzed, he found a way to make things work. Until the time came that he had to leave his home and enter assisted living, which then led to Benedictine Care Community. He was cared for by so many and made many friends. He enjoyed the activities provided like bus trips, crafts, karaoke, and bingo, just to name a few. Ron loved to visit. He loved to talk about years ago which came easier to recall than what happened yesterday. He had a great sense of humor, loved his cars, his family, especially his nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Ronnie’s big enjoyment in life were his cars. He owned many beautiful cars in his driving life. You would always find him in a newer vehicle and waving to everyone. He would say “Just being friendly.” He enjoyed several summers at Pinehurst Resort at Twin Lakes, and McCraney Lake. Ronnie was currently a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Ada, MN.

Rest in peace Ron, you will be so incredibly missed.

He is survived by his sisters, Janice Leppala, Virginia, MN, and Delane Stene, Ada, MN; brother, Lowell Thompson, Ada, MN; numerous cousins; and nieces and nephews, Kenny, Debra, Marsha, Lee, Tricia, Aaron, and Emily. Ronnie enjoyed his 8 nieces and nephews and was a wonderful uncle who spoiled them with his time, funny sayings, and good presents, always offering treats and pop!

Ronnie is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Thelma; brothers-in-law, Morris Leppala and Kenneth “Kenny” Stene; sister-in-law, LuAnn “Lulu” Thompson; and nephew, Nathan Thompson.

Funeral: 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Grace Lutheran Church, Ada, MN.
