ROSEAU FRESHMAN BOROWICZ SCORES FIVE TOUCHDOWNS IN WIN OVER CROOKSTON

The Crookston Pirate Football team had the lead in the second quarter, but Roseau’s Jordan Borowicz had the game of his young career. Borowicz scored five touchdowns, three on offense and two on defense, as the Rams defeated the Pirates by a score of 36-19.

1st Quarter –
Roseau received the opening kickoff and went three and out. Crookston returned the ensuing punt to Roseau’s 41-yard line. The Pirates began their drive with a 10-yard run from Antonio Romero before the drive stalled, and Roseau’s Miles Dickson sacked Teagen Lubinski on 4th down.
Roseau got the ball and immediately got behind the chains when Carter Coauette made a tackle for loss. Roseau responded two plays later by handing it off to Jordan Borowicz, and he took it 59 yards for the touchdown.
Crookston got the ball back, and Teagen Lubinski kept it for a 17-yard gain. The next three plays were unproductive, and Crookston had to punt again. Roseau got the ball back and quickly found themselves behind the chains after a one-yard run and a penalty. On second and 14, Dickson got a carry and gained 12 yards. Roseau went to the ground on third and short, but Lionel Luna stuffed it. The Rams went for it on fourth and two, but Coauette made the tackle for loss, and Crookston took over at the Roseau 30-yard line. Crookston ended the half with two carries, one from Lubinski for five yards and one from Jake Erickson for 10 yards.

2nd Quarter –
Crookston began the quarter with a false start penalty. Two plays later, the Pirates committed another false start that brought up third and long. After an incompletion, Crookston went for it on fourth down, and Lubinski kept it and gained 14 yards, inches short of a first down. Roseau took over at the Crookston six-yard line, and two plays into the drive, Jake Erickson recovered a fumble to give the ball back to the Pirates right on the doorstep of the endzone.
Crookston gave the first and second goal carries to Jake Erickson, and he got five yards before the Pirates called a QB sneak on third down, and Lubinski scored the touchdown. Erickson kicked the extra point, giving the Pirates the lead 7-6.
Roseau couldn’t have responded much faster as on the first play of the drive, Jordan Borowicz broke another big touchdown run, this time for 84 yards. Crookston got the ball back, and Lubinski carried the ball twice for 31 yards. Coauette got a carry for 8 yards, and Erickson got a carry for 6 yards. Two plays later, Crookston committed a holding penalty that put them behind the chains. The 2nd and long and 3rd and long plays went nowhere, and Crookston was forced to punt.
Roseau got the ball back and went three and out. Crookston got the ball back with two minutes left. Hoping to get a score on a short field before the half, Jordan Borowicz intercepted a pass and took it to the house to make it 18-7 after a failed two-point conversion. Crookston got the ball and ran out the rest of the half. Roseau went into the half with an 18-7 lead. When asked about Jordan Borowicz’s first-half performance, Roseau coach Matt Heddan said: “(Borowicz) is an absolute stud.”

3rd Quarter –
Crookston received the second-half kickoff, and they started on the ground as Jake Erickson got three straight carries that gained 10 yards. Coauette gained six yards on a carry two plays later before an incompletion brought up fourth down, and the Pirates punted.
Roseau took over at their 39-yard line and went to air as Eli Wensloff completed a pass to Jake Borowicz for seven yards. Wensloff threw another pass, this time to Jordan Borowicz for 37 yards. Roseau went to the ground for three straight plays and gained ten yards to bring up 1st and goal. Roseau gained seven yards on the following three plays and decided to go for it on fourth down. Crookston’s Riley Helgeson and Erickson penetrated the line and made the stop to give the Pirates the ball back.
Two plays into Crookston’s drive Lubinski completed a pass to Erickson for 11 yards and a first down. Roseau committed a defensive penalty, giving the Pirates an extra 15 yards. Lubinski had two carries for eight yards, and Erickson had a carry for three yards. Two plays later, Erickson got a carry for 11 yards, and then Erickson got another carry for eight yards before the quarter ended.

4th Quarter –
Two plays into the fourth quarter, Lubinski carried the ball for 17 yards. Two plays later Roseau’s James Jacques made a tackle for loss bringing up third and long. On the next play Kvien recovered a fumble and Roseau got the ball back. Two plays into the Rams’ drive Jordan Borowicz broke off another big run, this time for 70 yards and a touchdown. Crookston got the ball back and two plays into their drive Kvien recovered another fumbled and this time he returned it for a 38 yard touchdown to give Roseau a 30-7 lead.
Crookston began their next drive with Coauette not in a quarterback and he immediately completed a pass to Tate Hamre for eight yards. On the next play Coauette kept it himself and broke off a 67 yard touchdown run to make it 30-13. Crookston needed the extra point to make it a two score game, but a holding penalty made it a 12 yard two point conversion attempt and the Pirates were unsuccessful.
Instead of kicking it off to Roseau, Crookston attempted an onside kick and Ashton Shockman recovered it to give the Pirates the ball back. The Pirates took over and immediately got behind the chains with a holding penalty. Coauette completed a pass to Hamre for 10 yards, before Jordan Borowicz intercepted a tipped pass and took it to the house again for his second defensive touchdown of the game, furthering the Roseau lead to 36-13.
Crookston got the ball back and Coauette completed another pass to Tate Hamre for seven yards. Two plays later, Parker Kelly made an incredible diving catch to gain 19 yards. Coauette kept it himself for six yards, Connor Hanson got a carry for two yards, and Hamre caught another pass for nine yards. On the next play Coauette evaded several tackles and rant the width of the field for a 10 yard gain. After two incompletions, Coauette completed another pass to Hamre for 14 yards. Three plays later Coauette found Hamre again for a 20 yard touchdown pass. Crookston attempted an onside kick with 33 seconds to go, Roseau recovered, and the Rams kneeled to give themselves a 36-19 victory over Crookston.

Crookston’s coach Nate Lubarski said after the game: “It’s never great to lose, but they grew up. We had quite a few injuries so guy who hadn’t played got out there. I was proud of how they handled adversity.” When asked about Carter Coauette coming in for Teagen Lubinski: “(Coauette) did a fantastic job and was calm in the pocket. He threw the ball well and is a fierce competitor. Nate Luarski also talked about Tate Hamre’s performance: “(Tate) is a big target. It was awesome to see him wide open and drag a guy into the endzone. When asked about next week’s game against Warroad: “Every week is a battle. We have to match that intensity.”

Roseau head coach Matt Heddan after the game: “Our guys worked hard.” Heddan also commented on Jordan Barowicz’s performance saying: “That was epic.” He also talked about other impact players: “Landon Baumgartner at nose and the O-line were huge today.”

Crookston falls to 0-5 and takes on Warroad next Friday in Crookston for their homecoming. Roseau improves to 1-4 and takes on Frazee next Friday also for their homecoming.
