SACRED HEART BASEBALL BEATS CHERRY TO FINISH 3RD PLACE AT STATE

 

The Sacred Heart Eagle Baseball team ran into an outstanding offensive team in the Parkers Prairie Panthers, who pounded out eight hits in the first two innings on their way to a 7-1 victory in the  State Class A Baseball Tournament semi-finals on Friday morning. The Eagles bounced back in a big way as they outlasted the Cherry Tigers 5-3 in eight innings in the Class A Third Place game at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud. 

FIRST INNING
Parkers Prairie came out swinging as Dylan Debilzen singled, and David Revering and Nolan Seidel hit back-to-back doubles to score two runs. After an out and a Mason Boesl single, another run scored for a 3-0 lead.
Sacred Heart responded in the bottom of the inning when Elliot Arntson and Josiah Sundby led off with singles. After a wild pitch, the runners advanced to second and third base. Arntson scored on a wild pitch to get within a 3-1 deficit.

SECOND INNING
Parkers Prairie’s first two batters were retired before the Panthers got a two-out rally going. Debilzen doubled, and Revering followed with a single to score a run. Steidl followed with an rbi single for a 5-1 lead.
Sacred Heart’s David Larson singled with one out, and Isaac Sundby reached on a fielder’s choice when Parkers Prairie tried to get the out at second base, but Larson beat the throw, and everyone was safe. The runners advanced to second and third on a sacrifice bunt by Mike Gapp, but the next batter struck out, and the Eagle threat was over with Parkers Prairie leading 5-1.

THIRD INNING
Parkers 
Prairie was retired in 1-2-3 fashion. Sacred Heart’s Josiah Sundby led off with an infield single before the next two batters flew out. Ben Wharam was hit by a pitch, and runners were at first and second base before a ground out retired the Eagles.

FOURTH INNING
Parkers Prairie was retired in 1-2-3 fashion for the second straight inning. Sacred Heart’s Larson led off the bottom of the inning with a double. After a strikeout, Mike Gapp moved Larson to third base on a sacrifice bunt. The next batter grounded out, and the inning was over.

FIFTH INNING
Parkers Prairie’s Revering led off with a single. Steidl laid down a bunt and beat the throw to first base for a hit. On the play, Revering tried to advance to third base, and the throw went to the fence and Revering scored on the throwing error for a 6-1 lead.
Sacred Heart was retired in 1-2-3 fashion in the bottom of the inning.

SIXTH INNING
The Panther’s Ben Wagner doubled with one out and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. Sacred Heart elected to intentionally walk Debilzen before they got the next batter to ground out.
Sacred Heart’s Nick Satterlund and Larson had back-to-back singles with one out. Isaac Sundby hit a ground ball to the pitcher, he got the out at second base, and the Sacred Heart runner was called for runner interference, and the runner at first was also out for a double play to stop the Eagle threat.

SEVENTH INNING
Parkers Prairie’s first two batters were retired before Mason Boesl singled and stole second base before scoring on a Noska single for a 7-1 lead.
Sacred Heart had some work to do in the bottom of the seventh inning, but they were retired in 1-2-3 fashion, and Parkers Prairie won the game 7-1.

Sacred Heart drops to 20-4 on the year and will play the loser of Cherry and Springfield at 3:30 PM today (Friday). Parkers Prairie improves to 25-1 on the year and will play the winner of Cherry and Springfield in the State Championship on Monday, June 17 at 10:00 AM.

THIRD PLACE GAME 

FIRST INNING
The first two Sacred Heart batters were retired before Parker Erickson singled. The next batter struck out.
Cherry’s Ian Kimmes reached on a walk with one out and stole second base. The next two batters grounded out and flew out to left field and the game was scoreless after one inning.

SECOND INNING
Sacred Heart’s Nick Satterlund reached on a bloop single over the first baseman’s head. The next two batters were retired.
Sacred Heart’s Jake Satterlund continued his solid pitching as he got the first Cherry batter to pop out to second base before striking

THIRD INNING
Sacred Heart kept the streak of getting a hit in each inning as Josiah Sundby and Parker Erickson had back-to-back singles. Jake Satterlund walked to load the bases, but the next batter flew out to right field, and the Eagle threat was over.
Cherry started the inning when Kalub Brown walked, but the Sacred Heart defense came up with a big double play. The Tiger batter bunted, and Jake Satterlund fielded the ball in front of the mound and threw to second base to get the out. Erickson had a quick relay to first base to complete the double play. Isaiah Azuma walked and was caught stealing on a great throw from Sacred Heart catcher David Larson for the third out of the inning.

FOURTH INNING
Cherry’s Noah Azuma continued his outstanding pitching, striking out the first two Sacred Heart batters before a groundout.
Cherry finally got its first hit of the game in the bottom of the inning when Noah Azuma hit a homerun over the left field fence for a 1-0 lead with one out. The next batter walked and advanced to second on an error. The next batter struck out, and the Cherry baserunner tried to steal third base and was thrown out for a strike-em-out throw-em-out double play.

FIFTH INNING
Sacred Heart’s Mike Gapp and Elliot Arntson started the inning with singles. Josiah Sundby bunted, and Cherry tried to get the out at third base, but Gapp beat the throw, and everybody was safe. Parker Erickson hit a ground ball to shortstop, and Cherry turned a double play, allowing Gapp to score to tie the game at 1-1.
Cherry’s first batter, Masen Heitzman reached on an error before the next three batters were retired. 

SIXTH INNING
Sacred Heart’s Ben Wharam started the inning with a line drive over the right fielder’s head for a double. He moved over to third on a wild pitch and scored when Nick Satterlund reached on an error for a 2-1 lead. After a strikeout, Isaac Sundby tripled down the right-field line to score a run for a 3-1 lead.
Cherry answered in the bottom of the inning as Ian Kimmes was hit by a pitch with one out before Noah Azuma blasted a line drive over the left field fence again for a two-run home run, tying the game at 3-3. Both hits in the game for the Tigers were home run by Noah Azuma.

SEVENTH INNING
The first two Sacred Heart batters were retired before Jake Satterlund walked and Ben Wharam singled. The next batter grounded out, and Sacred Heart retired.
Cherry started the inning with a Heitzmen walk, and Sacred Heart made a pitching change, bringing Josiah Sunb retired the next three batters to force extra innings with the game tied at 3-3.

EIGHTH INNING 
Sacred Heart had a good start to the inning when David Larson drew a walk. Isaac Sundby reached on a fielder’s choice that retired Larson at second base. After a strikeout, Elliot Arntson hit a chopper down the first baseline and the ball hopped over the Cherry first baseman to score a run. Josiah Sundby and Parker Erickson walked to load the bases. Jake Satterlund was hit by a pitch to score a run for a 5-3 lead.
Cherry’s leadoff batter, Isaiah Azuma singled for the third Tiger hit of the game. After a pop-out, Noah Azuma was intentionally walked before the next two batters were retired, and Sacred Heart won the game 5-3 to finish third place.

Sacred Heart finishes the year with a 21-4 record and says goodbye the following seniors – Josiah Sundby, Kaven Rohrich, Mike Gapp, and Ben Wharam.
Cherry ends the season with a 24-3 on the year.
