Sacred Heart Baseball steals their way to a win over Blackduck

The Sacred Heart Eagle Baseball team stole 15 bases and took advantage of seven Blackduck Drake errors on their way to a 10-6 victory in a loser-out game in the Section 8A Baseball tournament at Bemidji State University.

FIRST INNING-
Sacred Heart’s Elliot Arntson got the start on the mound for Sacred Heart and was firing strikes as he got the first batter to ground out to second base, struck out the second batter on three pitches, and got the next batter to fly out to deep centerfield on a nice catch by Micah Zavoral to retire Blackduck.
Sacred Heart’s Parker Erickson reached on an error on the shortstop before stealing second and third base. Isaac Sundby walked before stealing second base. Elliot Arntson reached on an error on the first baseman and two runs scored for a 2-0 lead. Jake Satterlund tripled down the right field line for an rbi triple and a 3-0 lead. Nick Satterlund singled to score another run and the Eagles led 4-0.

SECOND INNING-
Blackduck’s Jayden Rockis started the inning with a double to centerfield before the next three batters were retired with two pop-outs and a groundout.
Sacred Heart’s Will Zavoral singled before he was out when the right fielder dropped a fly ball hit by Erikcson, who reached on the play. Erickson stole second and third base before he was picked off at third base for the second out of the inning. Sundby and Arntson walked and a few pitches later, Sundby scored on a wild pitch and Jake Sattlund singled to score another run for a 6-0 lead.

THIRD INNING –
Blackduck got the bats going in the third inning when Will Dirkhising singled with one out. Will Lien singled and Rocky Vigalanti reached on a fielder’s choice. Max Lundberg and Rockis singled to scored a run each to get within a 6-2 deficit.
Sacred Heart’s David Larson reached on an error to start the bottom of the inning and his courtesy runner, Sawyer Horken, advanced to third on another error and scored on a Micah Zavoral groundout. for a 7-2 lead.

FOURTH INNING-
Blackduck’s offense continued to pick up as Aiden Bauer led off with a triple and scored on a Dirkhising single to get within a 7-3 deficit.
Sacred Heart answered in the bottom of the inning when Jake Satterlund walked and Nick Satterlund singled and stole a base and the Eagles had runners at second and third base. Micah Zavoral tripled to right-center field and Sacred Heart led 9-3.

FIFTH INNING-
Blackduck’s Max Lundberg and Rockis singled to start the inning. The next batter hit a ground ball to third base and Sacred Heart got the out at third. The next batter hit into a 4-6-3 double play.
The first two Sacred Heart batters were retired before Arntson reached on catchers interference. He advanced to third on an error and scored on a Jake Sattulernd single to score a run for a 10-3 lead.

SIXTH INNING-
Luke Mistic singled with one out and Dirkihising walked. The next batter hit a ground ball to third base and Sacred Heart got the second out of the inning at third base. The next batter flew out to left field.
Sacred Heart’s David Larson led off the inning with a walk before the next three batters were retired with a popout and two strikeouts.

SEVENTH INNING-
Blackduck had a great start to the inning when Max Lundberg singled, Rockis reached on an error before Jake Mistic doubled to score a run. Aiden Bauer doubled to score two more runs to bring the Drakes within a 10-6 deficit with nobody out. The next two batters were retired before Dirkhising singled. The next batter grounded out to shortstop and Sacred Heart won the game 10-6.

Sacred Heart improves to 16-6 on the year and will play the winner of Fertile-Beltrami and Fosston at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Bemidji State University and KROX will have the game with a 1:30 p.m. pregame show. Blackduck’s season comes to an end at 15-7 on the year.
