SACRED HEART BOY’S BASKETBALL USES RUNS TO BEAT GOODRIDGE-GRYGLA

The Sacred Heart Eagles Boy’s Basketball team got a balanced effort, was on fire at the start of the game, and used two second-half runs to power past the Goodridge-Grygla Chargers 77-58 in the Section 8A Tournament quarterfinals at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

FIRST HALF –
Sacred Heart came out firing and built up a 14-6 lead forcing a Goodridge-Grygla timeout with 13:31 to play in the half. The run included three triples, one from Parker Erickson, one from Breck Bloom, and one from Josiah Sundby. The lead continued to grow, and after four straight points from Ethan Arntson, Breck Bloom would hit another three to give the Eagles a 21-8 lead. Bloom continued his hot shooting and knocked down another three, and after five more points from Josiah Sundby, Sacred Heart had extended their lead to 33-14 with 7:30 remaining in the opening half. The Chargers started to get their rhythm offensively, and after some scores from Lewis Jones and Blake Rychlock, they had pulled the deficit down to 37-22. The Eagles lead got all the way down to 11 points as the Chargers were able to cut the deficit to 41-30 with just one minute left in the half, thanks in part to a couple of three-pointers from Spencer Coan. Josiah Sundby would give Sacred Heart the momentum back heading into the halftime break scoring the last four points on a couple of layups, giving the Eagles a 45-30 lead at halftime.

SECOND HALF –
The Chargers would come out and score five of the first seven points in the second half to make it 47-35 Sacred Heart with 15:33 remaining in the game. After an Ethan Arntson layup for the Eagles, Goodridge-Grygla would answer back with a layup from Lewis Jones and then take a timeout, with Sacred Heart winning 49-37 with 15:11 left. The Chargers continued to chip into the deficit until it was single digits at 51-42. After a stop, Carson Rubischko would knock down a three for Goodridge-Grygla, and just like that, the deficit was 51-45 with 12:03 remaining. It was a 15-6 run to start the second half for the Chargers. With all the momentum on the Chargers side, Sacred Heart would rattle off a 9-0 run to take a commanding 60-45 lead forcing a Goodridge-Grygla timeout with 8:44 to play. The run was sic straight points on three layups from Landen Denney, and an Ethan Arntson three. The Chargers would score the next four points and get it back to a 60-49 game, but the Eagles would go on yet another run to put the game out of reach. Sacred Heart would go on a 10-3 run to go in front 70-52 with just three minutes remaining, and all ten points were on layups from Ethan Arntson, Landen Denney, Parker Erickson, and Josiah Sundby. Sacred Heart would coast the rest of the way and hang on to win the game 77-58.

Sacred Heart improves to 25-4 and now advances to the Section 8A Semi-finals (West Sub-Section Championship) at 7:45 PM on Wednesday.  You can watch the game on the KROX video stream or listen on KROX Radio.  Goodridge-Grygla finishes its season with a final record of 15-13.
