Sacred Heart gets past West Marshall Baseball

The Sacred Heart Eagles took advantage of seven West Marshall Fusion errors to win the game 5-3 in the second round of the Section 8A Baseball tournament in Red Lake Falls today.

FIRST INNING-
West Marshall was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a line out to first base, a ground out, and a strikeout as Sacred Heart’s Nick Satterlund worked quickly in the inning.
Sacred Heart’s Parker Erickson ripped a line drive to left-center field for a one-out double. Erickson stole third base and scored on a throwing error on the stolen base attempt for a 1-0 lead. Elliot Arntson and Jake Satterlund singled and Nick Satterlund reached on a fielder’s choice when West Marshall got the out at second base. With runners at the corners, David Larson reached on an error and a run scored to give Sacred Heart a 2-0 lead.

SECOND INNING-
West Marshall’s leadoff batter Rylan Anderson walked before the next three batters were retired on flyouts.
Sacred Heart’s Liam Larson singled before Will Zavoral laid down a sacrifice bunt and was thrown out at first base. On the throw to first, Larson advanced to third base for a two-base sacrifice bunt. Isaac Sundby grounded out and Larson scored for a 3-0 lead.

THIRD INNING –
West Marshall’s Darby Benitt started the inning by getting hit by a pitch. He advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Blair Potucek before scoring on an error to get within a 3-1 deficit.
Sacred Heart’s Jake Satterlund led off the inning with a single. After an out, David Larson singled, but the next two batters were retired.

FOURTH INNING-
The Fusion leadoff batter lined out to right field before Dylan Widner walked. The next batters struck out and flew out.
Sacred Heart’s Will Zavoral and Isaac Sundby reached on errors and
advanced to second and third base on a Parker Erickson sacrifice bunt. A run scored on an Elliot Arntson sacrifice fly to center field for a 4-1 lead.

FIFTH INNING-
West Marshall’s first two batters were retired before Blaine Smith walked and stole second base. Derek Moehrle singled to score Smith to get within a 4-2 deficit.
Sacred Heart’s Nick Satterlund reached on an error and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Micah Zavoral singled with one out before Liam Larson bunted and reached on an error that allowed a run to score to give the Eagles a 5-2 lead.

SIXTH INNING-
The first two West Marshall batters were retired before Sebastian Johnson singled. The next batter popped out to the pitcher.
Sacred Heart’s Arntson singled with one out before the next two batters were retired and the Eagles took a 5-2 lead into the seventh inning.

SEVENTH INNING-
West Marshall needed at least three runs to keep the game going and the first two batters were retired. The Fusion’s Smith laced a line drive to the fence in center field for a double and scored on a Moehrle single to get within a 5-3 deficit. The next batter struck out and Sacred Heart won the game 5-3.

Sacred Heart improves to 15-5 on the year and will play the winner of Red Lake County and Fertile-Beltrami at 3:00 p.m. West Marshall falls to 10-9 on the year and will play the loser of Red Lake County and Fertile-Beltrami in a loser-out game at 5:30 p.m.
