Sandra Ilene Nordby- Obit

Sandra Ilene Nordby, 71, of Bartlett Tennessee, formerly of Shelly, MN, passed away peacefully in her sleep while under Hospice care on May 31, 2021, with her sons at her side.

She was born January 30, 1950, in Crookston, Minnesota, and grew up on their family farm near Shelly, MN. She graduated from Halstad High School in 1968 and attended Business College in Fargo, ND. She was married to Doyle Robert Nordby in September of 1969 in Shelly, MN, but later divorced.

She raised two children, and over the years worked for Northwesten Bell, U.S. Geological Survey, and U.S. Customs and Border Enforcement until her retirement in 2008. She loved music and her baby grand piano on which she taught dozens of students to play. She learned to sew at an early age and enjoyed making clothing and dresses. She liked league bowling, playing cards, and family holiday gatherings and events. She appreciated the beauty of the outdoors and nature, and warm summer days at White Earth, Maple, and Pelican lakes. She was active in bible study and her church music and choir programs.

She is survived by her sons, Jeremy (Diana) Nordby of Bartlett, TN, and Jason Nordby of White Earth Lake near Waubun, MN; four grandchildren, Alex Nordby and Chris Nordby (Jeremy and Diana), and J.R. Nordby and Jacob Nordby (Jason); sister, Carol (Jerry) Flickinger of Hope, ND; brother, Harlow Hanson of Shelly, MN; nieces, Sherry Kemple, Suzanne Flickinger, Sherry Longley, and Lori Kenison; and nephews, Scott Flickinger, Cory Hanson, Jon Hanson, and Kevin Hanson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Thelma Hanson of Shelly, MN. She will be greatly missed.

Funeral: 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 12, 2021, at Shelly Marsh River Lutheran Church, Shelly, MN.

Visitation:  6-8 PM, Friday, June 11, 2021 at Fredrikson-Ganje Funeral Home, Halstad, MN.

Interment: Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Rural Shelly, MN.
