SEMI TRAILER FIRE ON GATEWAY DRIVE IN GRAND FORKS

On Monday, March 4 at approximately 08:14 p.m. the Grand Forks Fire Department (GFFD) responded to 4720 Gateway Drive for a loaded semi-trailer on fire and near a structure.

GFFD responded with 4 fire engine crews and a command vehicle.  En route, an update was received that the fire was out, and no structures were in any danger.  GFFD downgraded the alarm to 2 fire engine crews and a command vehicle.  First arriving engine found a reefer trailer with the reefer unit itself that was burned.  The truck driver used a fire extinguisher and extinguished the fire prior to our arrival.  Damage was contained to the motor area of the reefer cooling/heating unit.

Trailer involved was a 2005 Great Dane reefer trailer.  Damage was estimated at about $3,000. Cause of the fire is believed to be an overheated starter failure.

Grand Forks Police Department and Altru Ambulance also responded and were on scene.
