SEMI TRUCK CATCHES FIRE IN GRAND FORKS RESULTING IN DAMAGE, NO INJURIES

On Monday, June 24 at approximately 10:39 p.m. Grand Forks Fire Department (GFFD) was dispatched to 4720 Gateway Drive, Simonson Truck Plaza, for a semi-truck that was on fire.

Upon arrival, the truck driver owner, Grand Forks Police Department (GFPD) and Grand Forks Sheriff’s Office (GFSO) used some fire extinguishers and extinguished the majority of the fire. GFFD used approximately 50 gallons of water to extinguish smoldering debris and put out hot spots. GFFD remained on scene for some time to continue checking for hot spots and monitoring the passenger compartment area.

GFFD responded with 10 personnel on 3 engines and a command vehicle. Cause of fire was due to leaking fuel on a stand-alone generator that was being used for some truck repairs. Damage to the 2001 Freightliner is estimated at 10,000 dollars and 2000 dollars loss of personal items inside the vehicle. There were no injuries. GFFD was assisted by GFPD, GFSO, and Altru Ambulance.
