SENIORS GET SEND OFF ON WHAT COULD BE THEIR LAST DAY AT CROOKSTON HIGH SCHOOL

Crookston High School held a send-off on Tuesday afternoon for the Class of 2020 with the possibility looming that it could be their final day as students inside the building.

Principal Eric Bubna said that with the future up in the air, the school wanted to thank and honor the seniors if it was their last day.  “We wanted to honor them today,” said Bubna.  “Everyone is going through a tough time, but for our seniors with spring sports up in the air, proms up in the air, graduation is up in the air, we don’t know.  This is not the way they want to end their senior year.  We brought them into the auditorium and thanked them for everything they’ve done for our school.  And said – we want to send you guys off in style just in case.  We hope they are back in school, we hope it’s not the last, but you never know, and we just wanted to honor them one last time on their way out potentially.”

Senior Leyton Salentine said it was an odd, overwhelming day.  “It’s definitely been an odd day,” said Salentine.  “Not something I expected to be a part of in my lifetime.  It’s just catching everyone by surprise.  It’s kind of overwhelming.  Hope to leave a legacy, leave a mark as what we did here as 9-12th graders, and hopefully, we were good role models to the kids below.”

Senior Gretchen Theis said it was surreal and that even though she’s been ready for the next step, it felt different, potentially leaving school for the last time two months early. “It’s kind of surreal,” said Theis.  “I’m ready for the next steps and have been for a couple of months now.  So, I’m really excited for college and summer, but it’s a little different now that it’s two months earlier than I thought it was going to be.”
