SNOWMOBILE CHASE LEADS TO ARREST OF A GRAND FORKS MAN

On Sunday, January 12 at approximately 3:30 a.m. a Polk County Deputy attempted to make contact with two snowmobilers near the Fisher Rest Area off Highway 2. When the Deputy approached the snowmobiles, they separated from each other. The Deputy lost sight of one of the snowmobiles but was able to locate the other snowmobile still in the vicinity.

When the Deputy attempted to make contact a second time, the snowmobiler began to operate the machine in a reckless manner. The Deputy attempted to stop the rider. The rider then began to flee from the Deputy. The Deputy pursued the snowmobiler for a short distance prior to the snowmobiler crashing the machine.

The driver of the snowmobile was taken into custody and was identified as Joel Novak (44) of Grand Forks. He is currently being held on fleeing charges.

No other information will be released at this time.
