SPORTS FEEVER – AUGUST 1, 2019

Welcome to another Sports Feever column and this one was completed while I am on a family vacation.  I am finishing the column from an undisclosed location, but have had a great time (when the darn kids aren’t fighting with each other).  It has been a great trip and I have enjoyed time with my oldest daughter (Alyssa), who is going to be a senior in college and is currently sending out applications to P.A. schools.  Blake is getting ready to go to Northland in EGF to be a respiratory therapist and Macy is getting ready to be a Freshman in high school and Carter is getting ready for his sixth-grade year.  We don’t know how many more FULL family vacations we have left on a regular basis, but I am enjoying this one and wish it could be a little longer.

I have been able to put together another column the past few days, while the kids are sleeping so I am not “working” while on vacation.

Enjoy the column and remember the first day of fall sports practice is August 12!!!!

I heard there was recently a pretty scary incident for Katrina Olson and the Red Lake Falls Girls Basketball team.  I asked Coach Brian Remick about the incident and if he would feel comfortable enough to share what happened because I am sure many of you have heard some version of the story, or this will be news to you.  Luckily, Win-E-Mac school is well equipped and some quick action by Brian and others helped save the day.

Brian’s email is below –

Out of respect for Katrina, I won’t go into too much detail about July 25th. Basically, she collapsed on the court at Win-E-Mac (WEM) High School and myself, Vance Kaupang of WEM, and couple others had to perform CPR and use the AED.

Luckily this worked and EMT staff had her airlifted to Fargo, then on to Mayo the next day. She has been her fierce self last couple days and plan was her to come home Thursday.
Lots of people, coaches, players have reached out to me, the players, and the Olson family. Everyone is very appreciative of the well wishes and prayers sent.
Great job also by Coach Kaster, Solheim, and Kaupang for having WEM school ready to handle this emergency.

Thanks Chris.

All I can add – Thank goodness Katrina was able to get help at the school and now at healthcare facilities in the area and now at Mayo Clinic.  Keep the Olson family, especially Katrina, in your prayers and we hope the best for Katrina and look forward to seeing her compete on the court soon!

The second tournament was a Breakdown tournament in Perham and Crookston went 3-0 and won the championship.  The Pirates beat Kindred 46-13 in the first round.  In the second round, they beat Menahga 38-26 and in the championship, they beat Browerville 53-28.

JOKES –

A female secretary was helping her new boss set up his computer and asked him what word he would like to use as a password to log in with.
Wanting to embarrass his new secretary a bit and let her know where they stood, he smugly told her to enter ‘penis.’

Without blinking or saying a word, she entered the password. She then almost died laughing at the computer’s response:

PASSWORD REJECTED. NOT LONG ENOUGH!

An old man and an old woman are together every night. They aren’t married, but for years and years they have spent every night together. All they ever do is sit on the couch buck naked and watch TV.

Every night, like clockwork, they do this – sit on the couch watching TV while she holds onto his unit.

One night he doesn’t show up. Then a second night goes by – no show. She calls him up.

“Where you been?”

“Oh … I’ve been down at what’s her name’s.”

“What are you doing there?”

“Pretty much the same thing we do – sitting naked on the couch watching TV while she holds my unit”

“Well, what does she have that I don’t have?”

“Parkinson’s.”
