SPORTS FEEVER – December 24, 2020

This is a very short Holiday edition of the Sports Feever column.  I am still working on the annual A to Z column and we will post it in next week’s column.  If you have an idea for a team or person that should be in the column send it to me at chrisjfee@yahoo.com.
Remember it has to be a team or person that starts with a certain letter.  Example – C for Chris Fee.  I always need a little help with some of the tougher names like Q, Y, Z, etc.

First of all Happy Festivus!  I hope you were able to air your grievances!!   If you don’t know What I am talking about, you are not a Seinfeld fan and it is okay.

Second – Merry Christmas!  I hope Santa is good to you and most importantly I hope you are healthy and happy!

In 2020 we found out sports are a privilege and not promised to anybody so make sure you enjoy EVERY second of it.  Sooner or later the high school and college career comes to an end.  So players, parents, coaches, officials, and everybody else associated with sports…..make sure you enjoy every minute in 2021 because there isn’t a practice or game that is guaranteed.

Another thing we learned this week is that Florida men’s basketball player Keyontae Johnson, who collapsed during a game on December 12, has been diagnosed with myocarditis, a heart inflammation that may be related to an earlier COVID-19 infection.  Myocarditis was what the Big 10 medical professionals warned them about when they decided not to have football this fall (before changing their mind).  This is the first case that we know about and will be a concern for teams, Activity Directors, Chancellor’s/Presidents, etc.

Enjoy the column and Merry Christmas!

The Minnesota State High School League, Minnesota Hockey, and many others have been discussing is the possibility of not having any fans at games during the winter sports season for high school and youth.  They are also talking about having to wear masks.  There hasn’t been anything in concrete, but it will be interesting to see how gung-ho the Let Them Play crew is to “let them play” if they can’t watch.  We all know the answer, but their sole purpose is “to let them play!” and let’s hope the kids get to play in mid-January!

Stay tuned, because we have heard rumors of games not being allowed until February so there is a lot to be decided.  We know this much, the Minnesota State High School League has said the spring sports season will start in early April and they won’t budge because spring sports did play last year.

JOKES

As she passed the young novices, Mother Superior said, “Good morning, ladies,” and the novices replied, “Good morning, Mother Superior. May God be with you.”
But once they were past, she heard one novice say to another, “She got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.”
Mother Superior was surprised, but decided not to pursue it.
Soon she passed two sisters who had taught there for years. They exchanged pleasantries, but again she heard them whisper, “She got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.”
She wondered if she had been harsh with them and vowed to be more pleasant.
Down the hall came retired Sister Mary. They exchanged greetings but Sister Mary added right to her face, “Looks like you got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.”
Mother Superior was floored. “Sister Mary, what have I done wrong? Three times this morning someone has said that about me.”
Sister Mary looked Mother Superior in the eye. “Oh dear, don’t take it personally. It’s just that you’re wearing Father Murphy’s slippers!”

Christmas always sucked when I was a kid because I believed in Santa Claus, and unfortunately, so did my parents.
