SPRINKLER SYSTEM LEAKS IN CROOKSTON HIGH SCHOOL KITCHEN, MINIMAL DAMAGE REPORTED

The Crookston Fire Department and Crookston Police Department were called to the Crookston High School late morning on Christmas Day after a sprinkler head broke and started the alarm system.

When the fire department arrived, water was spewing from the broken sprinkler head, and water was all over the kitchen area. “We are very thankful that the Crookston Fire Department and Crookston Police responded quickly and notified us of the incident, and we were able to turn off the water fairly quickly,” said Crookston School District Superintendent Jeremy Olson. “If we would have waited until somebody came back to the school and it ran the entire time, that would have been bad.  We were able to catch it quickly, so that limited the damage.”

The sprinkler head was in the kitchen area where they wash dishes, and that was fortunate because the flooring of the area was tile, and there was a drain in the floor and several sinks that helped drain some of the water. There are a lot of hard surfaces, so we don’t have any carpet issues or anything like that.  If you are going to have a water leak, this is a better case scenario,” said Superintendent Olson.
