St. John’s Prep Hands Crookston A 4-1 Loss

The Crookston Pirate Girls Soccer team scored their first goal of the season but came up short in a 4-1 loss to St. John’s Prep school in a game played at the Crookston High School soccer field.
St. Johns Prep scored eight minutes into the game for a quick 1-0 lead.  Neither team scored for almost 30 minutes until Crookston responded with their first goal of the season when Kenzie Epema scored from just right of center from about 12 yards out to tie the game at 1-1.  Neither team scored the rest of the half and it was 1-1 at halftime.
In the second half, St. Johns Prep used the wind to their advantage and scored 10 minutes into the second half for a 2-1 lead.  Prep added another goal 10 minutes later for a 3-1 lead.  Prep added their fourth goal of the game with 10 minutes left for a 4-1 lead and they held on the rest of the way for the victory.  “We played tremendously better this game than we did in the first game.  We changed the lineup and it seemed to help,” said Pirate Coach Sarah Reese. “Most of the play was in the middle third and we did a much better job of transitioning.”
Coach Reese said they had a lot of solid performances, “We had great games from Elise Erdmann, Brinna Egeland, and Kenze Epema.”
Crookston drops to 0-2 on the year and will host Detroit Lakes on Thursday, September 6.  St. John’s Prep improves to 1-1 on the year.
