STEPHEN-ARGYLE FOOTBALL FALLS TO GOODRIDGE/GRYGLA IN SECTION CHAMPIONSHIP

The Stephen-Argyle Storm football team fell to the Goodridge/Grygla Chargers in the Section 8 9-Player finals at the Fargodome by a score of 34-6.

1st Quarter –
Stephen-Argyle received the opening kickoff and started on the ground. Blaine Smith got three carries to start, and the third one went 26 yards and put the Storm in Charger territory. Cooper Clauson got the next two carries and went nine yards before Smith got the first down with a four-yard run. A defensive facemask penalty put Stephen-Argyle in the red zone. The Storm could not get anything going in the red zone, and a fourth-down pass fell incomplete, forcing a turnover on downs.
Goodridge-Grygla started on the ground with Lewis Jones getting two carries, one for 14 yards and the other for nine yards. A holding penalty put the Chargers behind the chains, but Blake Rychlock got a carry for 18 yards and a first down. Goodridge-Grygla quickly found themselves with a third and nine, and it was Rychlock getting the carry for nine yards and the first down. After a three-yard run from Rychlock, the Chargers had a wild snap on second down, losing 13 yards. On the next play, Rychlock hit Owen Larson for a 19-yard gain and brought up fourth and one. Rychlock for the first down with a run and then completed a pass to Kehan Nelson eight yards on the next play. Nelson got a carry on the next play for four yards and a first down, bringing the quarter to an end with the game still 0-0.

2nd Quarter –
Goodridge-Grygla kept it on the ground to start the quarter. On third and eight, Rychlock completed a 13-yard pass to Christian Loken, who dove to catch a tipped pass. Carson Rubishko got the carry on the next play and scored a seven-yard touchdown. Rychlock hit Larson for the two-point conversion, and Goodridge-Grygla took an 8-0 lead.
Stephen-Argyle got the ball back, went three and out, and was forced to punt. The Chargers took over, and Rubishko got a carry for seven yards. Nelson got a carry for 25 yards on the next play before Nelson took it into the endzone from 10 yards out. Rychlock ran in the two-point conversion, and Goodridge-Grygla quickly furthered their lead to 16-0.
Stephen-Argyle got the ball back, and after a Cooper Clausen six-yard run, the Storm had fourth down. Stephen-Argyle went for it, but they could not convert, giving it back to the Chargers.
Goodridge-Grygla kept it on the ground, as Rubishko got a carry for 11 yards, and then Rychlock got a carry for 19 yards. Three plays later, the Chargers found themselves with third and 21, and it was Rychlock completing a pass to Sawyer Jacobson for 29 yards and a first down. Three plays later, Rubishko got a carry and scored a four-yard touchdown to make it 22-0 Chargers.
Stephen-Argyle got the ball back, and two plays into the drive, Rychlock intercepted a pass to give the ball right back to Goodridge-Grygla. On the first play of the ensuing Charger drive, Stephen-Argyle’s Woinarowicz got an interception to give it right back to the Storm with 40 seconds left in the half. The Storm elected to run out the rest of the time, and the score going into the half was 22-0 Chargers.

3rd Quarter –
Goodridge-Grygla received the second-half kickoff and immediately gained 41 yards from a Nelson carry. Three plays later, the Chargers committed a holding penalty, putting them behind the chains. On third and 14, Rychlock hit Jacobson for a 23-yard passing play to get the first down and bring up first and goal. After two carries, Rychlock hit Nelson for an 8-yard touchdown pass, giving Goodridge-Grygla a 28-0 lead.
Stephen-Argyle took over and gave Smith two carries for nine yards. Aiden Trueblood got the first down with a four-yard run before Clauson got a nine-yard carry. Smith ran to the ball for three yards and a first down. Smith got another carry for 10 yards and a first down three plays later. On the next play, Smith hit Raydon Woinarowski for a 31-yard passing touchdown, cutting the deficit to 28-6.
Goodridge-Grygla took over and quickly had a third and 12. Rychlock got a carry for 11 yards, but a defensive facemask gave the Chargers a first down. Rubishko got a carry for six yards, and the quarter ended with Goodridge-Grygla ahead 28-6.

4th Quarter –
Goodridge-Grygla started the fourth quarter with a holding penalty and an incompletion, bringing up third and 14. Rychlock completed a pass to Jacobson for 11 yards, and when lining up to go for it on fourth down, that got the Storm to jump offsides, giving the Chargers a first down. Goodridge-Grygla gave a carry to Rubishko for five yards and a carry to Nelson for four yards before Nelson got a carry for 14 yards and a first down. The Chargers kept it on the ground with a carry from Rychlock for five yards and two carries to Nelson for seven yards. Jacobson caught a pass for six yards before Nelson got another run of 10 yards, making it first and goal for Goodridge-Grygla. The Chargers ran the ball four straight times to try and punch it in, and on fourth down, Rychlock scored a one-yard touchdown to give Goodridge-Grygla a 34-6 lead with only 2:31 left in the game.
Stephen-Argyle got the ball back, and three plays into the drive, the Chargers recovered a fumble. Goodridge kneeled out the rest of the clock and won the game 34-6.

Stephen-Argyle finishes their season 7-4. Goodridge/Grygla improves to 9-1 and takes on the winner of the Section 6 9-Player Championship in the first round of the state tournament.
