The Warren-Alvarado-Oslo (WAO) Ponies Volleyball team hosted the Stephen-Argyle Storm on Monday night in Warren. It was a tightly contested match in all three sets, but the Storm did the little things well to win the match in three sets (25-19, 25-22, 25-13).
First Set
The Storm came out on fire scoring nine of the first twelve points to take an early 9-3 lead. Leading the charge was Tessa Durand with two kills and an ace. The Ponies would counter with a run of their own and pull within one point at 12-11 after a kill from Tatiana Wright. The two teams would trade points back and forth for awhile with the Ponies tying the score a couple of times but they were never able to take the lead. After a couple of WAO errors would put the Storm back in front 20-18, the Ponies would use a timeout to talk things over. Whatever was said in the timeout didn’t seem to work, as the Ponies continued to make mistakes, and that allowed Stephen-Argyle to win the opening set 25-19.
Second Set
The Second set was tightly contested from start to finish. The set never held a lead of more than four points for either team. With the set tied at 18-18. The Storm would get a couple of points to take a 20-18 lead and force a Ponies timeout. Unlike the first set, the timeout seemed to work, and WAO would score four of the next five points to take a 22-21 lead and force a Storm timeout. The Storm would then score back-to-back points on kills from Emma Evans and Reegan Swanson to reclaim the lead at 23-22. Live Efta would finish things off for the Storm with two excellent serves, and Stephen-Argyle would claim the second set 25-22 coming from behind. That meant the Ponies would need to win the third set to keep the match going.
Third Set
Stephen-Argyle started strong in the third set scoring three straight points before a Tatiana Wright kill made it 3-1 Storm. The Storm continued to extend their lead with excellent play from Regan Swanson and Tessa Durand, and before the Ponies knew it, they trailed 15-7. Warren-Alvarado-Oslo never got closer than seven points the rest of the way, and Durand and Swanson were too much piling up the kills to lead Stephen-Argyle to a third set win of 25-13, to win the match 3-0.
Stephen-Argyle improves to 11-5 on the season with the win. Warren-Alvarado-Oslo drops to 5-8.
