STEPHEN-ARGYLE VOLLEYBALL WINS CLOSE MATCH AGAINST SACRED HEART TO ADVANCE IN SECTION PLAYOFFS

The Stephen-Argyle Storm Volleyball team hosted the Sacred Heart Eagles in the second round of the Section 8A playoffs. It was a back-and-forth match, and it was Stephen-Argyle getting the win 3-2 to advance to the section quarterfinals.

FIRST SET
Sacred Heart won the first two points before Stephen-Argyle got on the board with a Isabelle Westman kill. Sacred Heart’s Lydia Riskey responded with a kill, and a couple of points later, Ava Knutson got two straight kills to start a 5-0 run to make it 9-2 Eagles.
Stephen-Argyle used a timeout and won two consecutive points to make it 9-4. Izzy Cwikla got a kill to make it 11-4, and Signe Svendsen got a kill to make it 11-6. Sacred Heart responded with a 4-0 run, including a kill from Rylan Chwialkowski to make it 15-7. The following few points were back and forth before Stephen-Argyle went on a 3-0 run, including a kill from Emily Marquis to make it 18-12. The following few points were back and forth before Sacred Heart finished the set on a 5-0 run, including a kill from Rylee Chwialkowski. Sacred Heart won the first set 25-14 and took a 1-0 match lead.

SECOND SET
Stephen-Argyle started the second set on a 4-0 run, featuring two kills from Marquis. Sacred Heart got a point before Stephen-Argyle went on a 7-0 run, featuring a Jocelyn Groven ace and an Ayla Woinarowicz kill. The run ended when Stephen-Argyle hit it into the net, but the Storm won the following two points with kills from Woinarowicz and Signe Svendsen to make it 13-2.
The following several points were back and forth before Sacred Heart’s Finley Horken got a kill to make it 16-6. Stephen-Argyle’s Svendsen got a kill that started a 5-0 run for the Storm, making it 21-6. Sacred Heart responded with a 5-0 run, including a kill and a block from Riskey to make it 21-11. The run ended when Sacred Heart one into the net, and the following few points were back and forth. Stephen-Argyle closed out the set with a kill from Maruis to win 25-13, and the Storm tied it 1-1.

THIRD SET
Stephen-Argyle won the first two points, including a kill from Marquis. Sacred Heart tied it up a 3-3 during a 4-0 run featuring a kill from Knutson and an ace from Reese Chwialkowski. A net violation ended the run, but Sacred Heart went on another run, this time 8-0, to make it 13-4. The run ended when Sacred Heart hit it out, but Sophie Werner got two straight kills to start a 3-0 run for the Eagles to make it 16-5. The run ended when Sacred Heart hit one into the net before an Emma Anvinson kill started a 6-0 run to make it 23-6.
The following few points were back and forth before Stephen-Arglye went on a 3-0 run, with a block from Ayla Woinarowicz to make it 24-10. Sacred Heart closed out the set with a block from Riskey to win 25-10 and retake the match lead 2-1.

FOURTH SET
Sacred Heart started the fourth set on a 7-0 run with two kills from Riskey and two from Knudson. Stephen-Argyle took a time-out and won a point before the Eagles won two more points. Marquis got a kill, which kickstarted a 5-0 run for the Storm to make it 9-6. Horken got a kill to end the run before Stephen-Argyle won two straight, including a kill from Svendson to make it 11-8.
The following few points were back and forth before a Groven kill started a 3-0 run for Stephen-Argyle that tied the set at 14-14 and forced Sacred Heart to use a timeout.
The Storm won two more points after the timeout, and the run ended when Stephen-Argyle hit it into the net. Knudson got a kill for Sacred Heart to tie the set at 16-16 before a Westman kill started a 3-0 run for the Storm. The Eagles responded with a 3-0 run to make it 19-19. Stephen-Argyle then went on a 4-0 run, including a kill from Britini Kroll, which forced Sacred Heart to use another timeout.
The Eagles ended the Storm run with a kill from Riskey, making the score 23-20. The teams traded kills to make it 24-21 before a kill from Svendson gave Stephen-Argyle the set win, 25-21, and tie up the match 2-2.

FIFTH SET
Sacred Heart started the fifth set on a 4-0 run, with two kills from Riskey. Regan Swanson had great net play to get the point, which started a 3-0 run for Stephen-Argyle. The Eagles got a point before Marquis and Woinarowicz got kills to tie the set at 5-5. Riskey got two straight kills to make it 7-5 before Stephen-Argyle won three consecutive points to take the lead 8-7 and force a Sacred Heart timeout.
The Storm won two more points before a Riskey kill ended the run. Sacred Heart hit one into the net on the next point and used another timeout. Stephen-Argyle went on a 3-0 run to make it 13-8 before Alexis Lawrence ended the run with a kill. The Storm got a kill from Svendson to put themselves at match point. Another Lawrence kill kept Sacred Heart alive, and Emma Andvinson got a kill, which forced a Stephen-Argyle timeout.
After the timeout, the Storm got called for a lift, making the score 14-12. Marquis got a kill on the next point, winning the set 15-12 and the match 3-2.

Stephen-Argyle improves to 17-8 and takes on Kittson County Central in the Section 8A Quarterfinals. Sacred Heart ends their season at 17-9.
