SUMMER ARTS SAFARI LOOKING FOR KIDS TO PARTICIPATE IN WILLY WONKA PLAY

This year’s Summer Arts Safari and Crookston Community Theatre presentation will be Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka.

This production will be very similar to the original screenplays but will be the junior version. “The kids all participate, and they all have a character,” said Production Coordinator Fugi Baig. “This is production approved for the version of the kids.”

The Summer Arts Safari program is from Grand Forks, and they put on a production in different cities. “Every year, they stop by different cities and put on a production. There might be a production in Crookston, in Grand Forks, and elsewhere close by the area,” said Baig. Crookston has participated in the summer Arts Safari program yearly, and the Crookston Community Theatre sponsors it.

To register to participate in the play, stop by Highland Elementary School on Monday, August 14, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. “You can come in the front door, and we will be there to register them,” said Baig. “Once they are registered, we direct them to the auditorium, and the staff will be there to meet them.”

Registration is $25, and a T-shirt is included. Practice will be from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm every day from August 14-18. Parents will be asked to provide a packed lunch and water for their children participating due to the long hours. All participants will have a lunch break in the cafeteria during practice dates.

The performances will be on Friday, August 18, at 5:30 pm and Saturday, August 19, at 11:00 am. The show is estimated to be one hour in length. Admission is $5 for ages 13 and older, children ages six through twelve will be $3, and five and under get in for free. The performances will take place in the Highland Middle School auditorium.

For more information or questions, call Fugi Baig at 218-230-4976.
