SUPERINTENDENT JEREMY OLSON ON THE SCHOOL CLOSURES ORDERED BY GOVERNOR WALZ

Crookston Public Schools will be open Monday and Tuesday this week, with the closure authorized by the executive order of Governor Walz beginning on Wednesday, March 18.   “There will be school Monday and Tuesday this week,” said Olson.  “We talked as area schools; we’re all doing the same thing.  We’re going to school Monday and Tuesday, and the first day of closure will be Wednesday.”

During the closure, the schools will work on developing e-learning systems in case of a longer-term closure while still providing some services to the populations that need them according to Olson. “Schools are closing for a planning period to develop a correspondence or e-learning system,” said Olson.  “The governor also stated the expectation is we provide school-age child care for first responders and health care workers.  Some of those definitions are going to be laid out by the governor’s office as far as what occupations exactly that means.  His expectation in our e-learning plan is we have daily interaction with specifics to follow.  And the third point he addressed with us is to continue meal service programs.”

Olson said while specifics still aren’t ready to be released, they have been working on a food service option to provide meals for a few days and he anticipates the service being ready around Monday, March 23. “We’ve been planning this for a couple of days with the food service program working with a local organization,” said Olson.  “Distribution of food is the issue because you don’t want a congregation of people.  I don’t have specifics of this is when it starts.  I’m anticipating next Monday but I want to make sure all of our logistics are in place.”

We will update with more information as it becomes available.
