THE 118TH POLK COUNTY FAIR TO OFFER FUN FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT

The Polk County Fair kicked off the 118th annual fair on Wednesday afternoon and continues through Sunday at the fairgrounds in Fertile.  There will be some new things at this year’s fair with a chance for you to show off your dog’s skills.  “We are having the Dock Dogs.  There is a large pool of water, 27,000 gallons of water are going to be put into a big pool and they have a large dock area and the dogs will be competing for the longest jump, highest jump and those kinds of things,” said fair secretary Mike Moore. “That will take place on Saturday and Sunday.”
The popular Baja Races will be back again this year with the state championship on Saturday. “The Baja Race was created here (at the Polk County Fair), we have been running the Baja Race for a long time and this year we are going to have the state championship on Saturday night.  We will run the various features, the pickups, vans, the eight cylinders, four cylinders and the six cylinders so that is going to be a pretty amazing event,” said Moore. “The first Baja Race is Friday night with pickups, vans, and eight cylinders and Saturday at 1:00 in the afternoon for the four cylinders and the six cylinders and the state championship on Saturday night at 6:30 with the C, B and A features.  It is going to be a pretty amazing event and you have to compete in one of the other two events to get into the championship so it will be a pretty amazing show on Saturday night.”
There will be a lot of food and Todd Armstrong will have the midway.  “There is a total of about 40 vendors that will be here for food, it is pretty amazing,” said Moore. “It is going to be an unbelievable carnival this year, Todd Armstrong is using the Polk County Fair as the showcase.  He is bidding on three other fairs, one in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, one in Aberdeen, South Dakota and also the North Dakota State Fair and he has invited those fair boards to come to look at his equipment and his operation.  He is using the Polk County Fair as the showcase and we are pretty honored to have the opportunity.”
The fair schedule and ticket information are available at www.polkcountyfairfertilemn.com and KROX will be broadcasting live from the fair Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
