THE ANNUAL PIONEER DAY EVENT WILL TAKE PLACE ON SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 10 AT THE POLK COUNTY MUSEUM

The annual Polk County Museum Pioneer Day event will occur on Sunday, September 10. The event will start at 11:00 a.m. and finish at 5:00 p.m., with the event opening with lunch being served, including pie.

This year’s Pioneer Day events will include the Four Mile Portage taking place at the Centennial Building at 1:00 p.m., Lyndon Johnson performing at the Haflso Church at 2:15 p.m., The Wood Picks following with live music at 3:30 p.m., and free wagon rides running from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Live music will be available for most of the afternoon, which is a popular form of entertainment during the Pioneer Day event. “We have three different music entertainers, all good ole time fiddle picking,” said Treasurer of the Polk County Historical Society Steve Hannah.

Attendees can also participate in the display of the “hit and miss” Engines and lefse-making demonstrations.

The Pioneer Day event seems to have plenty of entertainment scheduled throughout Sunday, including the museum being open for tours. “This is a family event, anywhere for little children to your elderly. They all enjoy it,” said Hannah, “The kids like to go for the wagon ride behind the stables, and it’s beautiful the horses are alone enough to stare at. The entire museum is open to take a tour. I’ve been there for fourteen years and see things I haven’t before every time I walk through.”

Admission is also free for this event, and they will be accepting free-will donations.

There will be bus transportation available during the entirety of the event. The bus route will go from the Sugar Beat Museum to the Polk County Museum for the Pioneer Day event and vice versa.
