The fabulous foursome of 50’s and 60’s popularity, THE DIAMONDS, will be coming to Crookston Monday, September 10, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. at the Crookston High School Auditorium as a part of the current Entertainment Series presented by the Crookston Civic Music League. Readers will remember THE DIAMONDS as a 50’s sensation with their top hit-tune “Lil Darlin’.”
The Diamonds are a Canadian vocal quartet that rose to prominence with 16 Billboard hit records back in the day and they have continued to perform through the years with gradual changes in personnel currently including Jerry Siggins, lead; Gary Owens, baritone; Sean Sooter, tenor; and Jeff Dolan, bass.
The Diamonds’ biggest hit, besides “Lil Darlin”, was “The Stroll.” They won first place on Arthur Godfrey’s “Talent Scouts” with the prize being guest artist for a week on Godfrey’s daily radio show which then led to their first recording contract with Coral Records. TV performances included shows with Steve Allen, Perry Como, Vic Damone, Tony Bennett, and American Bandstand.
The Diamonds were most noted for interpreting and introducing rhythm and blues vocal music to the wider pop music audience. With their 16 hit records, their Doo-Wop Hall of Fame, their Vocal Group Hall of Fame, their 20 million records sold and their soundtrack “American Graffiti,” The Diamonds are the perfect entertainment choice for audiences ranging from formal settings, like their appearance in Crookston, to the casual atmosphere of an outdoor stage at a fair or festival. They combine their great vocal harmony and musical instrument talents to provide an unforgettable, first-class entertainment for our audience.
