THE SUMMIT FEATURED TENANT OF THE MONTH IS LARRY REGAN

The SUMMIT Senior Apartments with Assisted Living Services treasures the life experiences of our tenants.

After working 31 years at the post office it is not a stretch to say that most Crookston citizens know Larry Regan, a lifelong Crookston resident.

Larry was the oldest of 6 children in his family, including 3 other brothers and 2 sisters. He notes he was the oldest by only a minute, soon followed by his twin brother. All attended the Cathedral School growing up. Larry adds he always enjoyed school.

Larry’s parents were not afraid to teach their family the satisfaction and success hard work can bring. His dad was police chief for 25 years, worked on the railroad at night, and drove the school bus in the mornings. His mother worked at Polk County Nursing while she nurtured her children and even found time to volunteer at church. Faith was a mainstay in the Regan household.

Larry has fond memories of his dogs growing up, Labradors being his favorite breed. Hunting and fishing were amongst his favorite pastimes. “Going with my family to Union Lake was an exciting time for us. I eventually bought my own cabin on Union Lake” states Larry.

In his spare time from the Post Office, Larry has been a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1967. “I always enjoy helping where I am needed during the fish fries, cookouts and picnics” he adds.

A consummate helper to everyone in need at the Summit, Larry stays busy wherever it is needed. He tends to the raised gardens and helps pick up the outside; keeping the landscaping prim and proper. Fellow tenants comment that Larry is always willing to lend a hand. And if there is a need to fill in activities; Larry is present and ready to participate to keep the fun going. Got a puzzle in need of a good eye? Larry is there.

“I have been at the Summit for 4 years now, and I like the meals and chapel. Plus it is handy having laundry so close. I am so grateful for everyone who has helped me throughout life, so it is my honor to give back and help whenever I can. My advice for others would be for everyone to get involved in what you can.”
