THE WASHINGTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL KINDERGARTEN CLASSES WILL PERFORM THE “CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS” NEXT WEEK

The Washington Elementary School music program is putting on a show for their parents next week to celebrate the end of the school year with their annual “Carnival of the Animals” performances on Wednesday, May 4, and Friday, May 6 at 1:30 p.m. The four kindergarten classes will be split over the two days, with Miss Parenteau’s and Ms. Erickson’s Classes performing on Wednesday and Miss Hanson’s and Mrs. Tangquist’s Classes performing on Friday in the Washington School Gymnasium.

The Carnival will be a short concert full of animal-themed songs that are also titled “Carnival of the Animals,” that the kindergarten classes have been listening to and singing along to throughout the school year. “All of the songs that the students will be singing are animal-themed, so they picked some of their favorite animal songs to sing about and show to their families,” Pre-School & Kindergarten Music Teacher Gabrielle Foede explained. “After the concerts are done, I believe there will be baby chicks hatching in the classrooms that the students will get to see as well,” she added. Foede also included that each class individually wrote a song together to perform for their parents. “Each class individually wrote their own songs, which is one of the songs that they get to sing, something that they picked all the words, and topic for, and picked how all the notes should sound, so that’s something I’m particularly excited for,” Foede explained.

The Carnival has been an annual event at the school in the past but has been canceled multiple times in recent years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But with schools beginning events again, Foede hopes to have the Carnival return to an annual event for the school once again. “This is an annual event, however, it is also the first time it’s happened in a couple of years because of COVID, so it’s been a while since they’ve had a live in-person Kindergarten music concert,” Foebe explained. “It does happen every year, and hopefully, moving forward, it’ll start happening every year,” she added. The students are invited to wear their finest outfits for the Carnival, which will be held in the School’s Gymnasium with a small stage for the students and animal-themed decorations and art projects hanging around the Gym. All family members of the students are invited to attend the Carnival.

The Carnival is split into two performances, both beginning at 1:30 p.m. Miss Parentueau’s and Ms. Erickson’s Classes will perform on Wednesday, May 4, and Miss Hanson’s and Mrs. Tangquist’s Classes will perform on Friday, May 6, in the Washington School Gymnasium.
