Thea Oman, a senior on the Crookston Pirate Girls Swim team, competed in the Minnesota State High School League Class A State Swimming and Diving meet today at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.
Thea swam in the 100 Yard Freestyle and finished 26th place with a time of 55.78. “Thea came down ready to swim and swam really well today. She handled her nerves well, she had a very successful race,” said Pirate Coach Marley Melbye. “She had a fantastic start and finished that way. She went out strong and was able to hold it strong throughout the whole race.” Thea’s time was just shy of her personal best time and was happy with her performance. “She swam her heart out and she would have liked to have seen a 54 second time,” said Coach Melbye. “She was pleased with what she did and knew it would be tough after tapering, to swim her best time.”
Thea ends her Pirate swimming career with three school records (200 Yard Freestyle, 200 Freestyle Relay, and 400 Freestyle Relay) and wraps up a fantastic high school swimming career. “She has left her mark on Pirate Swimming and the records will be tough to beat,” said Coach Melbye. “She has left a lot of leadership and passion instilled in her teammates and she is going to be tough to replace.”
