Crookston Ox Cart Days is back with the theme “Lots To Do In ’22!” and true to its name, there are many events to do throughout Crookston next week. For each day of this week leading up to the Ox Cart Days, we will have the events scheduled on each day of Ox Cart Days.
For Wednesday, Ox Cart Days will begin with an Ice Cream Social with UMC Animals on the Mall at the gazebo on the University of Minnesota Crookston Campus Mall from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. The public and UMC students and staff are invited to enjoy the free ice cream to help beat the heat. During the social, at 4:00 p.m., the United Way of Crookston will hold its United Way Golf Ball Drop Fundraiser to help them reach their fundraising goal of $150,000. “United Way of Crookston will be doing a Golf Ball Drop fundraiser. Tickets are available for it and are $10 for each ball, so just hit me up for them, and we’re about $1,500 from our fundraising goal. So, we’re within inches of hitting our goal this year,” said Ox Cart Days Director Libby Boucher. People will drop numbered golf balls from a height onto a miniature golf green and try to get as close to the hole as possible, with prizes being given to three people who can get the closest to the hole. The prizes include those that would have been given away at the Hugo’s/United Way Golf Tourney scheduled back on June 23. All of the donations from the event and over the entire year will go to many organizations that serve Crookston, such as Eat United, PATCH, the Salvation Army, and the Energy Assistance Program.
Near the end of the Social, at 4:30 p.m., the first clue for the Medallion Hunt will be given out for everyone to begin searching for the medallion. “There will be a clue in the newspaper, on websites, and all over. You’ll get those clues every day, and there will be a new clue until the medallion is found,” Boucher said. The clues will be in the form of poems hinting at the building or area where the medallion is hidden, with the person who finds it winning $200! When the Social ends, all of the youth ages 15 and under can head down to Schuster Park to participate in the RiverView Health Youth Dodgeball Tournament at 5:00 p.m. Team Check-ins begin at 4:30 p.m. with a registration fee of $40. Teams can have up to six players, with them being placed in brackets based on the oldest player’s age. The first-place team will win $100 in Chamber Bucks, second place will win $60 in Chamber Bucks, and third place will win home $40 in Chamber Bucks. Registration must be due by Wednesday, August 10. Registration forms can be found below or at www.crookstonoxcartdays.com.
After the Ice Cream Social, there will be a Road Rally at the Downtown Square Red Barn from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., where people can participate in a task-based scavenger hunt around the Red Barn. But if you’re looking to relax after some of the excitement, the Golden Link Senior Center will host dinner from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m. with live music by Four Wheel Drive from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. To close out the day, Drafts Sports Bar & Grill is hosting a Wheel of Trivia event, with the theme being “Trivia for the Generations.” “Bring grandma, bring mom and dad, and bring your younger brother or sister because the subjects will be Millennials, Boomers, Gen Z, Gen X, and then a category of things you should know because you’re a functioning adult,” said Boucher. “We’ll have prizes and play about four or five rounds. We’ll spin the wheel, and it’ll land on one of those four generations, so you’ll need to grab grandma or someone and say, “This is a question for you,” and there will be a trophy and cash prize for the winners.”
