On this week’s court report we have an update on a few of the more “high profile” arrests and cases in Polk County District Court and the surrounding area. Information on those criminals is below:
Presley Sleyster, 20, arrested in Crookston Saturday, December 29 is facing second-degree murder charges in the death of a 3-month-old child in rural Staples. His hearing scheduled for Monday, January 7 has been postponed until Monday, January 14 at 1:30 p.m. in Cass County District Court.
Joshua Carl Hendrickson, 40 of Karlstad, had a contested omnibus hearing on Tuesday, January 8. An order for submission has been taken under advisement by Judge Jeffrey S. Remick, presiding over the proceedings. A review hearing has been scheduled for April 2 at 9:00 a.m.
Eric Rudolph Martinez, 46 of Fosston, was arrested Tuesday, January 8 for an incident that day in Fosston and an incident that took place at the same residence on Friday, January 4. He has pled not guilty to four charges stemming from those incidents including misdemeanor domestic assault for pulling hair and biting a female victim; misdemeanor 4th-degree damage to property for damaging a surround sound box; misdemeanor disorderly conduct for being verbally obscene and offensive to the victim; and misdemeanor contempt of court for violating at court mandate as records show indict he allegedly violated his court mandate by drinking before or during the incident. He faces up to 90 days in jail and up to a $1,000 fine for each charge.
The Northwest Regional Correction Center announced on Wednesday, January 9 that Jennifer Katherine Dunkin, 46 of Shelly, Jordon Phillip Overmyer, 27 of Hillsboro, ND and Dean Edward Alexander, 52 of Ada, were all booked on 1st-degree burglary charges. Each of them has been charged in Norman County District Court.
Dunkin faces two felony counts of receiving stolen property. If convicted the first count carries a penalty of up to 20 years and up to a $100,000 fine. The second count would carry a penalty of up to 5 years and up to a $10,000 fine. She is also charged with a gross misdemeanor for 5th-degree possession of a controlled substance which carries a sentence of up to one year and up to a $3,000 fine. Dunkin is scheduled for an omnibus hearing at 9:00 a.m. on February 6 in Norman County District Court.
Overmyer faces three counts including felony possession of a firearm by someone convicted of a violent crime. Overmyer was previously convicted in 2015 of being in possession of two bombs following a traffic stop in North Dakota. If convicted on the count he faces up to 15 years in prison and up to a $30,00 fine. The second count is felony burglary in the first degree carrying a possible sentence of up to 20 years and up to a $35,000 fine. The charge alleges Overmyer was in possession of a dangerous weapon at any time before or inside the building he accused of burglarizing. The final count is felony theft of a motor vehicle carrying a maximum sentence of 5 years and up to a $10,000 fine. On Thursday, January 10 the defendant’s lawyer filed a motion to remove Norman County Judge Eric P Schieferdecker from presiding over the case. An omnibus hearing is scheduled for February 6 at 9:00 a.m.
Alexander faces two charges, felony possession of a firearm by someone convicted of a violent crime and 3rd-degree burglary. The first charge relates to Alexander’s two previous convictions for domestic assault if found guilty of the first charge Alexander faces up to 15 years in prison and up to a $30,000 fine. If 3rd-degree burglary charge carries a sentence of up to 5 years and up to a $10,000 fine. He is scheduled for an omnibus hearing on February 6 at 9:00 a.m.
