Thomas (Tom) Edward Quirk – OBIT

Thomas (Tom) Edward Quirk, 72, of Mentor, MN, passed away on September 4, 2024, with his family by his side.

Tom was born on April 15, 1952, in Crookston, MN, to his parents Edward (Joe) and Alma Quirk. He grew up in the Fisher, MN community, where he graduated from Fisher Public School in 1970. Tom farmed alongside his father on the family farm until 1982, when his father passed away, and then farmed on his own.

Tom met the love of his life, Kathy Berg, and they were married in June 1982. They established a homestead south of his farm, where he and Kathy raised their four children: Kelly, Erik, Tyler, and Matt. Tom enjoyed spending time with friends and family, making many great memories on hunting and fishing trips, vacations to various destinations, and numerous holidays together over the years. He took great pride in being part of the community, participating in volunteer first responder activities in Fisher, serving on church councils, the Fisher Farmers Elevator Co-op, Vinland-Huntsville Insurance Board and the Tynsid Township board. Thomas retired from farming in 2001 but continued spraying with his partner at their custom spraying company until 2005. Tom and Kathy then moved to Mentor, MN, to their dream home on Maple Lake. Tom stayed connected to the community by being the local fuel man for Fisher Farmers Co-op Fuel in Fisher, MN, until his retirement on December 31, 2019.

Tom’s real passion was being a grandpa to twelve grandchildren. He would drop anything to be part of their lives, whether it was for a game, a party, a ride, or just to hang out. Whenever any of his grandchildren needed something, he would be there. He loved giving his grandchildren rides on his ranger, tubing behind the boat, or going for ice cream at the local DQ.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Kathy Quirk; children, Kelly (Travis) Halvorson, Erik (Sara) Quirk, Tyler (Lynde) Quirk, and Matthew (Mici Braton) Quirk; and grandchildren, Cassidy Halvorson, Evelyn Drengson, Spencer Drengson, Luke Halvorson, Makenzie Quirk, Kierra Quirk, Easton Quirk, Collin Quirk, Zander Quirk, Devney Quirk, and Lachlan Quirk. He is also survived by his sisters, Janice (Bruce) Marteness and Marjorie Vitally, and sister-in-law, Karen Herdegen, along with nieces and nephews.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Alma Quirk; in-laws, Howard and Verna Berg; grandson, Declan Quirk; great granddaughter, Addison Loiland; and brother in-law, Nick Vitally.
