Tiedemann/Borowicz Lose Two, Eliminated at State Tennis

The Crookston Pirate Sophomores Catherine Tiedemann and Emma Borowicz lost their two matches today at the Minnesota State Individual Class A Girl’s Tennis Tournament this morning at the Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center near downtown Minneapolis.
Tiedemann and Borowicz lost to Greta Reichmann and Alissa Thorfinnson of Minnewaska Area 6-1, 6-2. “I think just the unfamiliarity of the facility,” explained Crookston head coach Mike Geffre of his team’s first match difficulties. “Minnewaska was down their last year and Litchfield also. I think a lot of those teams are a lot for familiar with playing in here. The sounds, the way the ball bounces and just the overall atmosphere.”
Crookston’s Tiedemann and Borowicz then played the number two doubles pair from Litchfield, Laney Huhner and Vaida Behnke in a three-set match losing 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 10-5. “It was definitely a learning experience,” said Geffre. “I thought we started off really slow on the day, but I thought we really picked it up as the day went on. We played better and better, in the last match that we played against Litchfield, I thought we played really well, we just couldn’t get the third set tie-break for that one, but like I said I thought we played pretty decent in that second set.”
While the two losses ended the Crookston pairs season and conclude the 2018 Crookston Girls Tennis season as a whole, the future is bright for this young team according to their head coach, “It’s an exciting time. It’s one of those things where we’re looked at as a team that has a good age group, but we still need our kids to get out and work to get there, but if we do get back down here we want to make an impact and do stuff that’s good.”
