Travis Michael Lee Holt, 34 of Crookston, was sentenced to five years in prison Friday after pleading guilty to charges related to an officer-involved shooting. On February 17, two Grand Forks Deputies, Chris Hutton, and Lee Mewes checked on a stopped car on US Highway 2 in Arvilla. Holt reportedly pointed a modified 9mm rifle at the deputies as they walked up to his parked vehicle according to an affidavit for his arrest. A shot was fired by deputies and Holt was injured.
The officer’s actions were ruled reasonable after an investigation during which they were placed on administrative leave. Holt pled guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm, two counts of terrorizing and violating a restraining order. Charges of possession of a short-barreled rifle and carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle were dismissed. Holt also pled guilty to terrorizing and violating a no-contact order for separate charges of pointing a firearm at a woman he knew and pointing the gun around the home telling her he’d shoot anyone who came into the home.
