TRI-VALLEY FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM PROVIDES YOUTH WITH BREAKFAST AND LUNCH

Tri-Valley Opportunity Council’s Summer Food Service Program kicked off Monday and runs through August 17.  The program offers free breakfast and lunch to kids and teens Monday through Friday throughout the summer at the Crookston Family Service Center, 1407 Erskine St., explains Debra Cooper, Child Nutrition Specialist. “The summer food service program we participate in is administered by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service,” said Cooper.  “We provide breakfast and lunch at this site Monday-Friday.  All kids under the age of 18 are eligible.  There is no registration, no cost, nothing.  They can just show up and eat.”

Meals will be served every weekday except Holidays explains Cooper.  “It’s offered Monday through Friday with the exception of Holidays of course,” said Cooper.  “Breakfast is from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m.  Lunch is served from 10:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.”

Youth participating in the food program will be provided with healthy meals explains Cooper.  “All our foods are healthy,” said Cooper.  “We have certain guidelines we have to follow.  All five food groups are served for lunch.  And three of the five components need to be served for breakfast.  All of them are healthy.”

Each day’s menu can be heard every weekday morning at 7:15 a.m. on KROX.
