The Polk County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle that went into the Red Lake River with the use of their drone on Saturday, April 3. The Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office Water and Rescue dive team responded and assisted with the recovery of the vehicle, a white 2015 white Chevrolet Colorado. The female driver, and sole occupant, who suffered a medical episode while driving was released from the hospital on Friday, April 2.
Agencies involved include the Crookston Police Department, Polk County Sheriff’s Office, and Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office Water Rescue.
No further information will be released at this time.
ORIGINAL RELEASE
At about 11:15 AM on Friday, April 2, the Crookston Police Department received information that a female walked into the Crookston Public Library all wet stating she drove her vehicle into the river. At about the same time the Crookston Police Department received more information of a vehicle in the Red Lake River east of the Robert Street Bridge in the area of Central Park.
At the time of the release, all indications are that the driver was the only person in the vehicle at the time it entered the river. The Crookston Police Department is actively investigating the incident in cooperation with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. Continued measures may include a dive team to help recover the vehicle. Central Park is currently closed to the public, please avoid this area.
The female driver was transported to RiverView Healthcare; her condition is unknown at this time. Updates will be provided as appropriate.
The Crookston Police Department is being assisted by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and Crookston Ambulance.
